Title: "Unable to open item for playback"
Post by: David Heath on 2010-12-02 15:51:12
I'm getting the following error message when attempting to play one of the FLAC files in my library:

Code: [Select]
Unable to open item for playback (Unsupported file format):
"="

The file exists on my I:, but every attempt I make to drag from my fb2k library into my playlist window causes the above error to appear when trying to play the file back. If I right-click on the file and select properties, then select the properties tab, I'm told that both the File name and the File path are: =

If that second character isn't showing up properly, then it looks exactly like the line-break icon in Microsoft Word.

If I drag the file directly from where it exists on my I: into the playlist view, it plays fine. Is there any reason why this might happen? I've tried searching, and whilst some have experienced the same error, I haven't found exactly the same problem on the board before.

Try deleting the file database.dat from %appdata%\foobar2000\ or %programfiles%\foobar2000\ while foobar is closed. Foobar should re-import your library and hopefully correct the stored path.

Unfortunately, I don't have that file in my foobar2k directory

You should be able to find it by holding shift and going File -> Browse Configuration Folder in foobar, I forgot about that menu command.

Done and done! I thought it hadn't worked first of all, because I got the same error, but I refreshed the Archive list and re-populated the playlist and all is now fine. No idea why that particular track had been lost, but at least I know now how to resolve. Many thanks.
