Title: LAME V7 encodes reporting to be V5?
Post by: radorn on 2022-10-12 19:34:52
I don't use MP3 much anymore, but I just encoded a couple of files with V7 for a special situation that required it.
I'm using foobar2000 as a frontend, with the LAME v3.100 encoder binary that comes in the official encoder pack.

The bitrate levels seem right, but the files report being V5 instead of V7.
It doesn't really bother or cause any trouble to me, but I thought it was strange and I was wondering if this is normal

Its normal.  V7 is V5.xx resampled to 32khz .

Hmm, you're right. I didn't even think of looking at the samplerate in order to notice that.
It seems "normal" VBR modes without resampling end with V6.

Thanks
