1.6 is unable to play mono and multichannel files with Default output mode

1.6 beta 7 is unable to play mono files with Default output mode if Window's setting for soundcard is stereo. Unrecoverable playback error: Unknown error (88890002). If i manually add "Convert mono to stereo" to active DSP then it works. The same problem with multichannel.
No such problems with Case's WASAPI shared component and old DS mode.

Thanks for reporting.
Should be fixed in beta 9, please test.
Also, what exact version of Windows is this on?

Nothing has changed unfortunately. Still the same error. Windows 7 SP1.

I'm also getting the same error message on mono files (Unrecoverable playback error: Unknown error (88890002)), when using the default output.
I am also using Windows 7 SP1 (x64)

I personally do not get the errors when playing mono files. My realtek audio settings are set to stereo as well. I am running Windows 10 v1909.

The problem appears to have been Windows 7 specific.
Fixed in beta 10, thanks for reporting

I have just updated foobar from 1.55 to 1.6 and after restart I got this error:

Unrecoverable playback error: Unknown error (88890002)

This occurs on all my audio devices.

Before the update everything worked just fine.

My setup:
OS/HW: Windows 7 SP1 Pro 64-bit / 512 GB SSD / 32 GB RAM / GeForce GTX 260
audio device #1: Creative SoundBlaster 5.1 24-bit USB external soundcard
audio device #2: ESI MAYA44 eX 24-bit / 96 kHz PCIe internal soundcard

I have multiple buttons which load different DSP chains:

button #1: stereo downmix -> no error
button #2: convert stereo to 4 channels -> error
button #3: channel mixer 4 channels (L R RL RR) -> error

I don't want to mess up my installation with some beta versions.

Is this issue already fixed in future releases?

I really want the multichannel playback since I have a surround speaker setup and want to hear the sound from all of them.

EDIT:
----------------------------------------
foobar 1.6.1 beta 3 still produces this error

Thanks for the details.
More channel mapping bugs have been addressed in beta 4. Please test and report results.
