The Point of Speex?

I don't really understand this..

I went to the sample page, downloaded a few samples, but their size is the same as the original! so what's the point?

The files have been decoded again, so that you don´t need a speex-decoder, but it would be nice if you could also download the spx-files, just to see the size-differnce.
