[TOS2] extrabigmehdi trying to derail conversation

@Ed Seedhouse
I agree with you  that our ears can be fooled, but I  just disagree with the examples you used to illustrate this.

You can't talk of "illusion" each time our perception limits are reached.
For instance, when mp3 encoder are removing high frequency, they are not "fooling" our ears,
it's just that we cannot hear these high frequencies.

If you are talking of ABX  comparisons,  you still rely on your ears to make at each steps  a decision.
When ABXing  you are never completely sure, if you are unable to hear a difference.
At least that's how I  feel.

But you are mistaken, given the common meaning of the word "illusion".  It's silly to argue based on a non standard definition so I won't respond on that point again.

Of course I wasn't, and it astounds me that you can even think my statement was referring to ABX, which is not an instrument but a method.

I was talking about things like microphones, voltmeters, and the like, which engineers can use to measure differences between things that are not distinguishable to the human ear.

You can't judge sound quality, only by relying on things like microphones, voltmeters, and the like.
If you can measure a difference with one of these tools, that doesn't mean you'd be able to hear it.  So yeah, according to the supposed "common meaning" , not hearing the difference would be an illusion again.

I neither said nor implied that we can.  You are raising straw man arguments and not discussing the issue fairly.  So I conclude that you are no longer worth talking to.
