Feature Request/Feature Restoration - Load last location on app open

When Foobar v1.4 (I believe) was released, it broke access to audio on my phone's SD card. In trying to troubleshoot I uninstalled/reinstalled the Foobar mobile app. That resolved the storage access issue, but ever since then when I open the app it loads to the main Foobar menu, not to the last location that I had open. Prior to v1.4, if I swiped the app closed from an album menu, or whatever was playing last, it would load right back to that screen. Now when it loads it goes to the main menu, and I have to go to Music on External Storage ->Artist folder ->Album folder to either get back to where I was or wherever I want to get to.

I know that I can just swipe left to get to whatever was playing last, but if I want to get to another album or artist folder from there, pressing the phone back button or swiping right doesn't take me up a level in the folder hierarchy like it used to when app open would load to where I was last; instead back/swipe right dumps me back to the main menu, so I still have to press through multiple menus.

It's a minor thing but it was very convenient when this worked properly, and now it's just an annoyance. I was hoping that it would be corrected in a subsequent release, but it has been a while since v1.4. If there is a setting that I am missing that would resolve this I would appreciate that info (Settings ->Advanced ->Resume Playback is not a resolution). I am running Android 14. Thanks.

I already loaded 1.5. Didn't fix it. Unless I am missing a setting somewhere....

Where is the version you are using listed?

There should be no special settings.
Copy to internal storage or replace SD Card.
Change the folder name to a different folder and make it Media Library.

Anyway, please TEST rebuilding the Media Library

Many users seem to be experiencing issues such as not loading Tracks or Skin files from the SD card.

The version in the Settings ->About section is 1.5.0 preview 2024-01-11. I just tested with internal storage and I get the same result - if I close the app from the track that is playing, relaunching the app loads to the main menu, not to the track that was playing. I have uninstalled/reinstalled/rebuilt the library in previous builds without any resolution as well.

And if it matters I should mention that I am running this on a Samsung A53, which is running OneUI 6.0.

Users with the same symptoms have never seen a solution like this. In my case, the issue was resolved by updating foobar2000 mobile.
Please look forward to the update.

Any updates on this? No recent updates/preview releases have fixed this, and I am able to reproduce the issue on other Android devices...

My needs are the same as yours. I posted two posts, but it seems that I expressed myself incorrectly and no one understood.
Start the program and load it directly onto the playback page,
However, now it is time to load the main page or playlist page.

For anyone following this issue - this has been almost entirely fixed in v1.6.0 preview 2024-06-11. If you are in a list of albums, within an artist folder, or in an album folder and you swipe the app closed, reopening it will take you back to where you were. The only thing that hasn't been fixed, and it is a minor item, is that if you have a track open in the app and you close it, reopening will take you back to the parent folder of that track/track list for that album, not back into the track itself, which is how it used to work. But again, minor issue. Big thanks to the team for fixing this.

Last location on app open does not persist through a device reboot, and it randomly works/doesnt work on app close and reopen.

This is not a issue, it is a functional requirement. If there were three options, that would be great. Play interface, list interface, main interface.

My 2 cents...I just want the app to load to wherever I was last when I closed it, regardless of how long the app has been closed, if the device was rebooted, etc. It used to do exactly that, several versions ago.

Will show me how to set it up,please.


I hope there is an option to choose the starting position
Browse/Main interface
Artist, Album, Playlist etc.../List interface
Show playback controls/Now Playing interface
and last location

Sad news: 1.5.3 This is the final maintenance update for old devices.
This feature hasn't been implemented yet.
open app,userinterface is Playback controls (Now Playing)

Implemented in today's preview build, playback screen sticks across restarts.

1.5.x series is getting bug fixes only. I can't support full range of new and old devices forever, especially with pressure from Google Play to adopt new SDK or face removal.
I can be persuaded to port specific changes if someone running on an old device really wants them.

I love Foobar2000 and haven’t had any issues until now. I have it on my Android phone and it plays my FLAC files without a hiccup.
I just added AC/DC’s Australian album version of “High Voltage” (1975). I also have the international version (1976).
Despite being tagged with their respective release years, Foobar2000 is grouping the Australian and international albums together because they have the same album name in the tags. Only one album cover is showing but songs from two albums are listed. I have Jellyfin on my server and it doesn’t do that. I have Symfonium on my phone and it doesn’t do that.
I really prefer to use Fubar, but not sure what I can do. I guess I could change the ALBUM tag on the Australian version to “High Voltage (AUS)”, but that would look silly. Could there be a future fix for this?

Most music players use the combination of the AlbumArtist + Album tags to differentiate any Albums with the same name. The Year tag isn't typically used to keep these separate. One thing I have done for a couple of issues like this I have (Queen for example has released several "Greatest Hits" compilations) is to use a different Unicode character for the space in those Titles. While they appear similar on the display they are in fact registered as a different Album name and listed separately.

At some point a developer has no choice but to move on. Old devices can't be supported forever, and with so many newer devices needing to be up to date they will get priority for updates. Even Google demands a maximum level of backwards support.

It is fortunate that this request was able to be addressed in the update today. But it sounds like there won't be any more opportunities for anything else going back that far.
