Title: [OFFENSIVE] anti-realplayer trolling

Real's encoder is pretty good but iTunes is a little bit better. I would use the program I like more because the differences are small.

Personally I think he should test the differences himself as, to my ears, REAL failed pretty badly on some samples in the test.  I thought that Nero and iTunes were both much better.

Our AAC encoder is licensed from Coding Technologies (CT), and we have not done any inhouse tuning. It is likely CT's AAC baseline encoder very similar to Fraunhofer's AAC encoder.

If you could provide some more detail as to which problems you heard and which samples (your ABC/HR results and notes for instance), I will make sure the information is seen by our audio codec group and also forwarded to CT. Thanks!

When I did the listening test, it turned out the CT encoder came 2nd, right after iTunes, but like you all know, my field of expertise is really video , with audio as a little hobby on the side.

First of all I would like to say that this has nothing at all to do with you Karl.  You have seemed a good and rational person from your posts here and I would like to help you, however, I would also be helping Real Networks. I understand by this (http://docs.real.com/docs/investors/Proxy_Statement_2003.pdf) that they are a publically traded company?  If so my, personal, views on politics and the way the world works would not allow me to help them in any way, I'm really not trying to insult your job Karl, this is just the way I feel.  If you do not understand please be sure to watch the upcoming documentary The Corporation (http://thecorporation.tv/splash.php).

Huh? The man's just (trying to) do his job. You said you are not satisfied with his product. He offers try to fix it if you can show him where it fails. Then you say I WONT HELP YUOS!!1

If not a TOS violation, then this is at least very impolite, no matter what your view on the corporate world is.

You would also be helping all people using RealPlayer to encode their AACs.

Also, cliché as all hell, but if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

So, how does one earn a living if not by working for a corporation? Sorry, I can't farm, and if I start my own company, then I'm evil too. This is going to go off-topic in a big way. Might as well lock it now.

I think it's better if this thread is split from music_man_mpc's first post onwards.

Agreed. At least we can get back to helping Karl.
