I believe there was a standalone SCPL before it was integrated into Panels UI, much the same way that there were standalone track info panels.

I set the Album artist to Compilation.  My display script will read this, and if it is Compilation it will display Various Artists in the header and will add the artist tag to beside the song.

ELPlaylist or Single Column Playlist (aka SCPL) allow this.

These 2 components have to be used with ColumnsUI interface.

All the buttons and stuff are made by me. the ones to the right are for minylirics, searching lyrics in songmeanings and creating a lyric txt file, which makes the whole process pretty fast. I like having my lyrics

I would very much like to know how you made the panel that displays the technical info for the selected track.

This is most likely be achieved with the Track Info Panel (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=47044) and standart titleformatting like for example %__codec_profile%

yes possible for novice but it's not, the artwork vertical position in NGPlaylist is normally more near the Header text, and in the header, you can't display info like the Year at the end line

- mini mode and fullscreen mode

Does it matter? As there is no component for foobar that does this, this is a good alternative way that interfaces with foobar quite nicely imo. Besides, if there was a component that does this, it's still a webpage that is being loaded so it would be just a web browser too.

I know a reasonable amount about it from the source code, though I'm no expert. What we need is for someone *cough*T.P Wang*cough* to take over development of the WSH panel. (He already made a version that doesn't crash so often.) It's a great component, just too buggy at the moment.

That doesn't help. It only ends up in not displaying the parts from the lyrics/album list panel right beneath the playlist that are hidden by the resized playlist.

Looks to me like the default Playlist switcher and a huuuuuuuge, bloated, awesome playlist switcher script with many $replace's and $rgb's squeezed into the small codebox.

I'm so sorry to see Chronflow finally dropped, but not surprised for all of the reasons that you've stated. It has so much potential but the developer just doesn't seem interested in moving it forward, and without the ability to click on the cover to play the tracks, for me it's just eye-candy that comes with a huge resource hit

thank you. No Chronflow in my Curaçao config.

why this choice ?
1) it is boggus with some video adapter (even recent one with lastest drivers i.e 8800 GTS under XP, works fine under Vista)
2) no option to bound the chronflow with the active playlist, i prefer Graphical browser or BubbleGuuum coverflow (but this one is not very stable too ...)
3) click on a cover in chronflow to play the 1st song of an album with changing the active playlist not possible
4) the developper has no time to purpose some update in order to keep it up to date
5) it takes too much ressources

I do hope the artist image behind the playlist is optional as I do not bother with artist images mainly as it's a pain to find with such a large collection, unless some one knows of an easier way.

My computer is too old for the wsh panel.

Strange, that you have problems with the relative paths in PSS and Trackinfo mod...
I have foobar in a standard installation path (C:\Programme\foobar2000\) and it works here without problems on WinXP.
Maybe it's caused by your installation path, since it's not a standard path? (Just a primitive guesswork  )

I don't know a workaround for transparent background for Columns UI buttons toolbar...
I have made my buttons in PSS.

My mousehover images are made by just lowering the brightness of the normal images (at about 20 %).
I think it looks simple but elegant

What is the font in the upper panel?
And how have you managed to get the cover on group header AND track list?

The fonts are Segoe UI and Seraphim.

As for the artwork, you can use the $enabledraw(1) function to treat all the track sections as a single canvas, allowing you to use the $imageabs_rc function to draw the bit of the picture that doesn't fit in the group header.

hi falstaff, please integrate a playlist switcher...i love this feature...in your last config it was very i   complicated to use it...make it switchable between cover, lyrics etc...

Something new to play around with.
But i'll create a config without outdated or unneeded plugins (cwb_hooks, SCPL, queue manager, dockable panels).
But it looks good.

In some configurations/skins like, for instance, Kameleon I see that the playlist panel has a background image of the cover art or an artist image. How is that achieved ?
I realize of course that this probably will not be very simple and I know that there are a few tutorials, but could you give me a hint about where to start reading about this part of customizing foobar ?
At the moment I am finally beginning to understand the  basics of foobar and I intend to do some more reading about the details, but would like to start with what I mentioned above.

the starting point in Kameleon is to draw the background image (wallpaper, cover or artist photo) then i place an elplaylist panel in the panel stack splitter (the main one that contain the bg image) with pseudo-transparency turned on (right-click on elp -> settings ...)

so, first : create a new columnsUI layout, add a splitter to be the base-panel (a panel stack splitter = the main container)
then add under it (in CUI panel tree viewport) all other panel, especially those whci support transparency like elplaylist as said above.

then, you have to code the display of the bg image, using titleformat script in the settings of the main PSS (Right-click on the PSS -> Splitter Settings ... -> 'Per Track' section)
2 functions available to display images : $imageabs(...) or $drawimage(...) => see the text file that come with the panel stack splitter dll for the syntax).

after, all is imagination and titleformatting to manipulate panels, images, buttons, variables ... etc

"MINE", this is the _most_ important thing imo. No matter how customizable a theme is, it will never fill your needs exactly : )

Tried importing it though and the buttons (Start,Stop,Skip etc) are missing. It can't load the images. Tried moving the png's elsewhere and pointing to the new directory but still no luck..
Everything else seems to work fine!
Any ideas?

when i'm on vista and use Segoe UI font, $char(9733) shows a star. when i use Segoe UI on xp, i get an odd squared symbol with a question mark inside. is there a way to display stars from Segoe UI font on xp like on vista?

ELPlaylist keeps all the title formatting crap to itself at least.

Someone should marry WSH Panels with ELPlaylist and then use JScript for everything. Even Panel Stack Splitter could be merged into it.
Like WSH for everything. You just need to add the proper objects and methods to be used from JScript.
Just with the basic drawing commands and event system I could make a simple painting application out of WSH Panel so then just imagine what else you could possibly cook up.

Time to finally get a proper skinning system for fb2k instead of all these half-assed components.

I'm also new to foobar & one of the best places I have found for preset configs is DeviantArt HERE (http://browse.deviantart.com/customization/skins/media/foobar2000/?order=5). You need to read the descriptions carefully however as some are PUI (Panels UI) and some are CUI (Columns UI) configurations. The PUI configs won't work with the most recent foobar versions.

Some of the better (in my opinion) configs I have found are: DarkOne, Kameleon, & Curacao. There is a big enough variety however to suit anyone's taste and once you start messing around with a config (and with some help from these forums) you can pretty easily tweak it even more to your tastes.

It's foo_run and AlbumArtDownloader, both highly recommended. The former is a plugin that can call external programs. The latter is a stand-alone program which can also be set up to read your foobar Media Library. If you need any help setting it up let me know

Can you make any optimizations to the new playlist, to make it scroll more naturally?..yes, i know...my endless problem..i have the bad habbit to browse the entire music library through the playlist (this is your fault, because you make so awesome playlists!!!  ) so, i probably have problems with cache for the covers or something...
