sorry, I meant compared to 1.1.2.  the last test I ran (still more work to do) on the corpus here got 407.65MB for flac -5 and 405.21MB for flac -8.

I just tried 1.1.2.1 and found some interesting results...

64,052,060  01 - Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Want[12'].wav
41,799,092  01 - Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Want[12'].flac <-- 1.1.2_CVS
41,845,296  01 - Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Want[12'].flac <--- 1.1.2.1
42,002,097  01b - Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Want[12'].flac <--- 1.1.2
41,389,602  01 - Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Want[12'].wv

The command lines used are as follows

FLAC 1.1.2
-8 -V -b 4096 --sector-align

FLAC 1.1.2_CVS
-8 -A tukey(0.25) -A gauss(0.1875) -V -b 4096 --sector-align

FLAC 1.1.2.1
-8 -V -b 4096 --sector-align

Wavpack
-x3 -h

So, what's interesting here? It's no wonder that flac-cvs compresses better than 1.1.2.1.
