Masstagger - multiple values all wrongly added in the same field

Hi there dev team and users,

I'm using v2.24.3 x64 and the very last foo_masstag.fb2k 1.9.1, released on 2025-03-18.

In fields such as Title or Artist, like I used to do, I type (or paste) value_1[CR]value_2[CR]value_3.
It all ends up in all fields instead of each his own as value_1|value_2|value_3 (a pipe char.).
Thought I was clumsy, did it again, tried with a LF instead of CR, same result.

Thanks for any help.

All the story:
It's been sometime I had not ripped a CD, my F2K being regularly updated in between and I searched a while in the UI for the Script button.
I thought I was getting blind or forgot a check-mark in Preferences as I was used to since a long time… the module wasn't there anymore. So reinstalled it anew. Brand new.

PS: I gather the module was declared deprecated without an alternative? Users are not deprecated, please note.  :))

Either I'm highly confused, or you are not talking about Masstagger features. Masstagger is for creating complex tagging operations that you can save into scripts that can then be easily and quickly ran for any number of files.

You're right, when queuing many scripts after another. For maybe a big library or people converting many albums in a chain.
As I did in command line with Exiftool injecting the right metadata in 75k scans of old newspapers stored in the public library I worked in.

My own personal collection is done thanks to F2K since many years, sometimes adding a record borrowed from my local library.

Those little scripts used individualy when sh*t happens, like the last record friends have gifted to me :
When inserted in the CD device, all the fields were automatically filled by all capitals text, many infos missing or rubbish put by some moron on freedb.

At least when I get some rare records with as little produced, I'd rather type it all by myself or taken from Discogs or the record company, then some text processing.

I'm not any closer to understanding what you are trying to do. But most likely it's doable with the Properties dialog.

I can do it in one shot with these scripts.

Actually, I'm not really asking for help how to do this or that, but if a module/component that once worked well and then seems do act funny.

You could just exactly tell what you do and where... backed by 1 or 2 screenshots.

Yep.

On the left side, what is copied/pasted from Notepad++ in the field and what it looks like in Masstag.
On the right, what is appears in the frame after hitting "OK" and "Run" and what it looks like pasted in NP++

You need to use "Input data (one line per track)", not "Add value".

Thanks. It works, indeed.

But, why would the texte be changed in the former case? It doesn't add up. Anyway…

There is probably a logical and historical reason why the line changes get converted to underscores and pipes, though it could easily be a bug too.
But operations like those are better done with the Properties dialog. It's available out of the box, has been more performant as it uses newer features, if you find a problem it will much more likely get addressed than with Masstagger.

In case you are not familiar with how to do it there:
select 'Automatically fill values...' either from the Tools button or from right click context menu,
switch Source to Clipboard,
enter %TITLE% as Pattern.
If the casing is nonsense, like all lower or all upper case, you can hit the 'Auto Capitalisation' button to change all words to start with capital letter and rest get converted to lower case. If you find that makes things worse, hit the Paste button on top to restore to original formatting.

You can alter the strings manually in this view too.

When Preview looks good, hit OK and you have the data in Properties dialog ready for possible furher edits. If you are ready to write the changes to files, hit OK again.

Hello,

Thanks for your input, Case.

As I explained, it's been twelve to eighteen months I didn't had to do that and all was OK without a glitch until this last time. I maybe mistaken or was there some feature waiting around the corner?
I spent so much time with Foobar for 10+ years, with much classical or jazz music where titles and "personnel" can be tricky etc. that I'm used to work data in a text editor or spreadsheet where I feel more efficient than in the UI even if it is so powerfull.

Thank you for the tip, I see how to use it correctly now.

This record was particularly tricky because the mix of English et French titles.
In French, titles have a capital letter only at the beginning and none after that.

Then a guy who tagged it for FreeDB did it with boxing gloves.  :o
