next & prev. while in "random" mode

here is the first question:

while in "random" mode, when I click on the previous or next button,  foobar plays the next/previous song in the playlist, and not a randomly selected next/previous song. why is that?

and just one more:
what is the difference between "random" and "shuffle"?

Random picks a song randomly; every song has the same chance of being the next one. This means that there is the chance of some songs getting played more often than others. Shuffle considers what has already been played to avoid that.
