Isn't the whole AR thing meant to be used as verifying whole albums

Not really, from a technical perspective. The database itself works on per-track basis.
But in practice that doesn't matter. If all tracks (verified separately) are correct, the whole image is correct.
Exceptions are possible theoreticly, but i've never encounter such rips in practice.
But as i said, i'll add some additional checks just in case, and i'll tidy up log a bit.

I'm wondering if I'm missing something- is there a way, in 2.0.3 in the file browser, to have the directories appear in alphabetical order?  The multiselect directories is fabulous, but actually finding the directories is a pain because they're all mixed up.  What order are they in?  There was a post about sorting subdirectory lists on FAT32 partitions, but mine are NTFS and they do not appear sorted either.

Wierd. I thought .NET does the sorting. Ok, thanks for report. This also reminds me i promissed to add a 'show hidden files' option.

I found another bug (at least I think it is a bug and not by design) in 2.0.2a and 2.0.3a: When selecting Drag'n'drop mode, the Freedb lookup is disabled (greyed out) and no lookup is done.
Also in multiselect mode the freedb lookup is disabled.

This is by design. Batch modes are meant to be silent, and what should i do with freedb lookup if i can't show any windows? Silently replace track names with the ones from the first available freedb record? This can be made possible for musicbrainz, which has a lot less discid collisions and higher data quality, but i don't see how it can work with freedb.

For batch mode I think you're correct, but drag'n'drop is not per definition a batch mode.
I often drag just 1 directory in the dropzone and would like to use freedb lookup when I choose encode (to split an image/cue)
You also have a choice of never under freedb lookup, so if people are using drag'n'drop as a batch mode, they can tick that box.

I guess this requires a new definition for a batch mode.
Ok, i think a batch of one CD must not be considered a batch.

LOL, I see that my previous post is a bit strangely put, but I hope you know what I mean.

Hello, i use CUETools 2.0.3 x86 and got strange results, when i run it in Verify mode for one APE archive and CUE file.
It show me "Disk not present in database."
But when i remove from CUE one string "REM DISCID AE10AF0D", it show me "(01/01) Accurately ripped as in pressing(s) #1" for all tracks.

Also it show different Disc ID:
001cb4fd-0106ba7b-960e8a0c (without that string in CUE)
001ce185-0108fd63-ae0f220d (with that string in CUE)

Is it intended to work that way?

Yep. This CD contained a data track. DISCID gave it out.
Without the DISCID CUETools doesn't know about it, and verifies against a (not totally) wrong entry.

Somebody probably made a CD-R copy of that CD, loosing data track in the process, and then ripped it again.
So there's now an entry in the database for the variant of that disc without the data track.

To verify your rip against a real entry and probably get higher confidence values, you have to specify
the length of data track.

Not really, from a technical perspective. The database itself works on per-track basis.

Yes, but as an end-user, I can't check individual tracks from AR database. Only whole albums. And I'm only interested to know that my whole album is accurately ripped (though it also means that all the tracks are correct). IMO this is the end-user perspective. And that should matter a lot when designing software.. in general, a common pitfall for devs is to mostly think about technical stuff.

But in practice that doesn't matter. If all tracks (verified separately) are correct, the whole image is correct.

..all tracks within at least one offset, right? Again, IMHO the non-verbose log gives a wrong impression when it combines the AR results from different offsets and lists all tracks just once.. ok, there's the offsets, but like I've written before, those are just too confusing for normal users (I reckon). If I can be so bold for the last time and suggest what changes I think from an end-user perspective would improve the logs (I'm listing all for completeness sake):

1) Quoting again sauvage78: "grouping good results with good results in front & bad results with bad results in the bottom" would be really nice.. especially dividing the results with distinct "Good Results:" and "Bad results:" headers.
2) Bin "as in pressing(s)" texts.
3) Bin "Partial match to pressing(s)" texts, with my limited knowledge, I don't see for what use these could be for. Correct me if I'm wrong.
4) Show only the added up confidence numbers from "whole offset(s) fully accurately ripped" in the non-verbose log.. or better yet, ditch the non-verbose log completely, IMHO if you implement the first 3 points, I think that the full log would be understandable enough for normal users as well.

Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse here. I'm leaving the subject for now and I'll wait for your possible fixes/enhancements. Thanks for listening and tolerating.

P.S. Is it possible to use a separate/"portable" settings.txt file? Let's say If I'd like to use only ArCueDotNet.exe so that the only settings.txt would be in the same directory as the exe. No settings.txt in the \Application Data\CUE Tools\ folder... and if one exists in there, a way to tell the exe to use only the setting file in the directory. Some dll's are probably also needed. Too wild idea?

I used filebrowser to be able to use the freedb lookup before splitting an image/cue.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but after selecting a directory, choosing encode and clicking Go, the splitting starts without a freedb lookup.
When I click Stop and click Go again, then the freedb lookup is done before the splitting starts.

I'm using 2.0.3.a, selected always under the Freedb lookup and used template [%directoryname%\]new[%unique%]\%filename%.cue
(off topic: I liked the 2.0.2 choices and template possibility more)

It works the same as with foobar2000: delete the file "user_profiles_enabled", and settings will become local.

That's because you selected a folder, not a CUE sheet.
Currently batch mode is activated if
1) input is a folder
2) input is a multiselect file brower
3) input is drag'n'drop pane

Ok, didn't know, I don't use fb2k. It seems that ArCueDotNet.exe does NOT use any settings.txt file at all. Can you confirm this? I changed the AR verbose off from the main app settings & ran ArCueDotNet = still shows the verbose output.

One bug/problem found:

1) Rename *\Application Data\CUE Tools\settings.txt file (if you've "user_profiles_enabled", otherwise from the app "install" folder)
2) Start and close CUETools.exe
3) Compare the newly created settings file to the old renamed

= there are several lines that are missing in the new settings file:
Code: [Select]
ExternalEncoder7Name=lame -V2
ExternalEncoder7Extension=mp3
ExternalEncoder7Path=lame.exe
ExternalEncoder7Parameters=--vbr-new -V2 - %O
ExternalEncoder7Lossless=0

ExternalEncoder8Name=lame -V0
ExternalEncoder8Extension=mp3
ExternalEncoder8Path=lame.exe
ExternalEncoder8Parameters=--vbr-new -V0 - %O
ExternalEncoder8Lossless=0
ExternalEncoder8Modes=
ExternalEncoder8Mode=
ExternalEncoder9Name=lame 256
ExternalEncoder9Extension=mp3
ExternalEncoder9Path=lame.exe
ExternalEncoder9Parameters=-m s -q 0 -b 256 --noreplaygain - %O
ExternalEncoder9Lossless=0
ExternalEncoder9Modes=
ExternalEncoder9Mode=
ExternalEncoder10Name=lame 320
ExternalEncoder10Extension=mp3

ExternalEncoder10Parameters=-m s -q 0 -b 320 --noreplaygain - %O
ExternalEncoder10Lossless=0
ExternalEncoder10Modes=
ExternalEncoder10Mode=
ExternalEncoders=11
(the first line is actually only different, not missing)

Or it's the other way around, the previous versions had those lines and the newer version doesn't, but failed to remove the obsolete lines from the settings.txt file.

> It seems that ArCueDotNet.exe does NOT use any settings.txt file at all.
That is correct. There are not many settings that affect verification, so this was not needed in the past.
I'm considering three options at the moment:
1) Use CUETools settings for ArCueDotNet
2) Add several command line options for ArCueDotNet
3) Use the 'profiles' system that will be introduced in the next version, so that ArCueDotNet would have a separate options profile, configurable with CUETools.

> there are several lines that are missing in the new settings file:
New CUETools versions introduce new external encoders, which sometimes obsolete older ones.
I see no reason to force the removal of the encoders used in prior versions.
Encoders can be always added/removed from the settings interface.

Just tried and I was able to remove by selecting an encoder and pressing DEL, not much luck with adding, how does that happen? The add/remove functionality is a bit hidden now don't you think? Anyways, thanks a million for the answers again, can't wait to see new improved versions.

Is it possible to force CUETools to remember the encoder settings? Every time I start CUETools, the FLAC encoder setting reverts back to level 5 so I have to change it to 8 every time.

Gregory S. Chudov, thank you very much for your reply! That's clear for me now

I have one more question. While checking some files i found strange thing (at least for me).

Both CD images pass checking with exactly same result, both had same "Disc ID", both had same CRC in "Track   [ CRC    ] Status". At the same time CRC-32 for last track different and last 251 bytes for files different too (one had all zeros there).

So, my question here - how that could be possible?

Like i understand AccurateRip had much more higher collisions probabilities than CRC-32? If that true what reason to use it? And why not replace it with any strong hash, like Whirlpool, for example?

Thanks for your help and your excellent program!

AR hashes do not include the first five sectors of the first track and the last five sectors of the last track to account for drives with different offsets that cannot overread.

Regarding what reason to use the algorithm for AR, you'll have to ask Spoon.  As it stands right now, it's a good thing that the calculation is how it is since offset calculations for different pressings might otherwise not be possible.

First of all, thank you for CUE TOOLS and AR!
The AR (and its support via CueTools) is the best thing I've seen in years!
Thank you Gregory and thank you Spoon!

I've been browsing this forum for a few days now and I have a question.

I have a Frank Sinatra disc burned with wrong offset. It should have been burned with offset 646 for AR to be correct, but it wasn't (BTW that was a loooong time ago), so I used CueTools to find out the correct offset. The problem is that if there are more than 10 offset results, CueTools display only first 10. And what if the correct offset value is within next 10 results? Is is possible to find out all possible offsets at once?

Here are the logs when used with Offset value 0 and Offset value 646.

Another question regarding AR...

Does the AR database have the actual name of the disc (Artist, Title) stored along with the Disc ID and its track CRC values?
In another words, can I find out the name of the disc if I have its Disc ID (and vice versa)?

I ask this because I have a CD by Sting (Fields of Gold) which was burned incorrectly and I ripped it with EAC and EAC submitted those wrong AR results into AR database (that was a few months ago).
Now, after I found out that it was burned incorrectly, I ripped that CD into image and wanted to use CueTools to find out the correct offset, but... guess what. AR is returning 100% match (1/1) and that is (I am positive) the one my EAC has submitted a few month agos.
So, if CouTools could give me a list of potential CD's (like FreeDB does), I could pick the right one and than CueTools can give me the AR results for that one.

Is that possible?

Now I guess I found a bug... opened CUEtools.exe, used D&D mode to add six .cue files... and got an error. I can't unset "Manually", as you might see...

(BTW, I guess my previous comment is pointless, I found out that the batch mode works similar...)

The problem is that if there are more than 10 offset results, CueTools display only first 10. And what if the correct offset value is within next 10 results? Is is possible to find out all possible offsets at once?

I've compiled a version of CUETools.AccurateRip.dll without the 10 offsets limit. Download it here.
(Replace the one in your CUETools folder. Use at your own risk!)

@Gregory: I can't see the usefulness of this limit. Could you at least make it optional?

Tnx, but I prefer Gregory's binaries and DLLs. Don't want to have a glitch somewhere.

BTW Should I decide to use it anyway, what version is this DLL compatible with (2.0.3?) and is it for 32-bit or 64-bit version?

Works fine on my XP x86, CUETools 2.0.3.
