Released version 0.1.5c with some fixes and changes based on the recent feedback. http://www.unkempt.co.uk/fb2k/foo_podcatcher.html

Regarding "Open Containing Folder" not being enabled. Not sure why this is, but it is and I'll look into it.

Thanks for making it possible to enable tile view without DUI again!  It seems that after playing around with podcatcher for long enough, the cover images get messed up every time, though I haven't been able to figure out what triggers this.  By "messed up" I mean that all cover images are there, but they're assigned to the wrong podcasts.  Toggling tile view might fix it temporarily.  Should I try to reset podcatcher by removing foo_podatcher_config.xml and re-subscribing to everything?

EDIT:  here's what happens: http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/9817/pctile.png

No don't delete the file, it won't fix the problem. There will be a bug somewhere in the dialog code.

Edit: Ok, I've reproduced it. I'll look into it. Thanks for reporting.

Edit 2: And it's fixed.

I've just discovered this. Finally I can uninstall Happyfish/iTunes. Thank you a lot !
Three questions:

Ist there a way to automatically download the images embedded in the feeds ?

Any plans for a panel version of this?

Some podcasts embed some html code in the "Comment" tag of the mp3 file. I am not good @title formatting, does any one know a way NOT
to display the html code, but just the text ?

Comment Entry:
Code: [Select]
<br clear="all"><br>Deutschlandfunk, Forschung Aktuell<br><a href="http://podcast-mp3.dradio.de/podcast/2009/12/29/dlf_20091229_1640_38ce6940.mp3">Direkter Link zur Audiodatei</a><br><p><br></p>

What I'd like to see (I don't mind the "&quot;"):

Code: [Select]

Again......Thank You !

Released version 0.1.5e. The "Open Containing Folder" context menu option should now be enabled for downloaded files.

Ok, did some kind of half-ass job on fixing my formatting issue.

Two more feature requests:

- Some way to configure how often feeds should be checked for updates !
- Merge the "Remove Podcast" with "Delete File", so both can be done in one step !

Thanks for the update !

i would like to second the request for automatic tagging for downloaded podcasts.  since this plugin doesn't automatically set podcasts as podcasts for ipods (and the ipod plugin can't set podcasts as podcasts) it makes finding them in the music list a lot easier to find.

Hi !

Today I'm a new Foobar (v1.0) user ;-)

i've just installed Podcatcher to download my (only) podcast, but i've got a problem. My audio files are saved in network directory, and i've got a sub directory "Podcast".

But when podcatcher download podcast files to my network directory i've got an error :

http://www.azeroth.fr/audio/azerothep17.mp3' to 'file://\\a64\musique\Podcasts\Azeroth.fr\azerothep17.mp3'
Podcatcher: Error creating folder 'file://\\a64\musique\Podcasts\Azeroth.fr' (Invalid path syntax)
Podcatcher: Finished downloading podcast item(s).
Podcatcher: Error creating folder 'file://\\a64\musique\Podcasts\Azeroth.fr' (Invalid path syntax)

Can you just add this possibility in podcatcher ?

Podcast source is : http://www.azeroth.fr/azerothrss.xml

Thanks, and sorry for my english

Not ruling it out, but am hoping some resourceful individual will create a UI Element containing UI Panel. That would keep my implementation cleaner, and help me focus on other features.

Any chance you can add support for download paths relative to the install directory? I currently have my foobar installed in portable mode and my media library path as ..\Mp3s\ . It would be nice to have the podcast download location set to ..\Mp3s\Podcasts\

Thanks for a top component.

Hello nausea,

so far the downloaded and not downloaded podcast are placed in the podcatcher playlists.
What dow you think of a clean seperation of these two types?
I mean following: the feed manager offers the possibilty (button? checkbox) to switch between a online mode, that shows the online podcasts, and a local mode that would show only downloaded podcasts stored on disc. An automatic refresh of already open podcatcher playlists after changing mode would be nice.

Yes, is there any way to indicate that a particular podcast has been downloaded or not? I was downloading an entire series, but closed Foobar before it finished and wasn't sure which it had actually downloaded outside of looking at the actual files in the destination folder. And when I re-opened Foobar it did not continue downloading, so I manually had to select the rest to download again.

Besides that it's a great component, thanks nausea!

Hi, is there any tutorial somewhere?

For what? What do you want to know ?

Well I am not Bodhi but I would add my request for a mini tutorial for the podcatcher functions. Please go easy on me. I am a newb to really getting in the guts of Foobar. Let alone expanded functionality like Podcatcher. There are two main things I am having trouble with. The podcatcher manager/interface or whatever it should be called. I am probably overlooking something simple but this is what I get when I look for the podcatching functions;

File>Update Podcasts. Doesn't seem to do anything.

View menu> Podcatcher Download Manager and Podcatcher Feed Manager. Clicking either one opens a small dialogue box. The Feed Manager is pretty straightforward. It has a box to paste urls to the feed you want. Easy. The Download Manager is a mystery. There is nothing there other than column names such as Title and Status. I managed to get the podcast I subscribed to to appear in the main player window. The only way they would download to a folder was to highlight them and right click. This brought up a menu with "Download Podcasts" and "Remove Podcasts" and an unhilighted "Podcast Properties" that was unclickable.

The only other items related to Podcatcher is a new tab that says of course, Podcatcher. This brings up nothing different onscreen than default or new playlist tabs. It looks identical but will have whatever podcasts you tried to download listed there. And last, there is a function under Library>Configure>Tools>Podcatcher  that lets you set file path, refresh dates, etc. I am also using Columns UI. Does this make a difference? When I go to nausea's podcatcher homepage, I notice his screenshot shows a nice interface on the left side of the screen and a list of his pods on the right. This is very clean and easy to understand. I would really like to bring up a screen/panel or whatever you call it that has a few of these functions listed together. BTW, my Columns display is the NG Playlists + Playlists Tabs if that makes a difference. Sorry to be so long but this a very useful component for Foobar and I vastly prefer to try to use Foobar vs stuff like Juice or iTunes.  I have used Foobar for a couple of years but only in a very rudimentary way.  I haven't done much customising of it and I am sure I am missing easy tweaks. So again. sorry for newb questions. And a big thanks to the author. Great component.

Sorry guys. After further reading it would seem this is geared more toward the Default UI. Is this correct? I fiddled around with Layout>Enable Layout Editing Mode and got a configuration that is very close to the one shown on the homepage. One thing I have not figured out is the little panel(I think that is right) in the lower left corner of nausea's screenshot. I like it that the toolbar header has Title and Status there. This is quite easy and intuitive to read and understand what is going on with the file selected. What I can't figure out is how to get that toolbar. I went into the Layout Editing Mode and added the UI Element "toolbar header". Fine. Now how do you get it to provide the functions you need? I right clicked it and that brings up a menu of choices that seem to be the only ones available and title or status are not options. Is this panel or toolbar or whatever you call it something that was custom configured or is it part of a pre configured UI group? Thanks guys and sorry for the newb confusion. I really have been searching the forums for a hint about the toolbar functions but can't seem to find much talk of it.

I think this checks the feeds for updates. A pop-up in the System Tray should appear when it finds something new, but I guess nothing happens if there is nothing.

For me (in Default UI) it says "No current downloads." - I guess it will show file transfer status if it is downloading something.

Podcast Properties works for me when I select a single podcast - it diplays some data and IDs and stuff, and download status (didn't notice this before). It is greyed out if I select more than one.

I certainly hope this is possible but have doubts as to whether it is feasible as I would have thought that UI panels depend on the default UI's dll being loaded.  I very much would like to use the podcatcher in columns ui.

I believe a number of columns ui components eg Lyric Show Panel have been updated to support the default ui eg. the Lyric Show Panel, but of course understand if this will take a lot of coding time, I have a lot of respect for all the devs making plugins available to the public for free!

Problem report:

The Podcatcher playlists are editable (i.e. items can be deleted).  Since these playlists are managed and updated automatically by Podcatcher, shouldn't they be locked?  If my memory serves me well, they used to be locked in an earlier version, but I'm not sure...

Version info: fb2k 1.0, podcatcher 0.1.5f

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm currently working on v0.1.6, and will try to take these things into account.

The main changes implemented so far are a preference for re-tagging files on download (as a global and per-feed option), the Podcatcher Feed Properties Dialog implemented as a Default UI element, feeds are checked in parallel three at a time, and the component notes when podcast items were last "seen" in their respective feeds (which I might use in future versions for either manually or automatically removing "dead" podcast items).

I've had a partially successful go at making the group headers in the various dialogs respect the Default UI colours, but that's more complicated than you'd hope.

I'm working on a preference which analyses when and how often a feed is updated and will automatically adjust the update period accordingly. For example, if a feed has historically updated mid-day Tuesday, check half-hourly around then, perhaps hourly on the rest of Tuesday, and half-daily the rest of the week. Or if a feed hasn't updated for a few months, check it daily.

There is also a long-standing bug where update and download threads are lost(?) and don't return. This is evident when a download is stalled and more can't be started, or if the feeds can't be updated (and perhaps are all marked as queued). Restarting foobar2000 is the workaround. I think this happens on my laptop when it is put to standby in the middle of such an operation and I suppose some function in the thread doesn't time-out when it is woken. Anyway, that's something I need to investigate before the next release.

I'm busy at the moment though so it might take some time before release.

Right you are sir. I just added it to the display and it looks great. Functional and to the point. Thanks for pointing it out. I have no idea why I didn't just try it. I tried almost every other option in UI Elements!

Nausea. Thanks again for the great component. This is what podcatching should be. Not a  bunch stuff you don't really use. I would love nothing more than to ditch Juice and Doppler for good. Foobar is such a good player and this kills two birds with one stone. Thanks again.
