EAC crashes at end of rip before generating log file 2017-04-10 16:46:41 I've been trying to rip The Lion King soundtrack and it seems to crash right after it rips the last track but before generating a log file (so no log to post). It does rip cleanly and then crashes. I tried it multiple times. I ripped it using Windows 7 Pro 32-bit. It's running no virus scan software (as I don't use this PC to get on the internet) or any program that should interfere with contacting CTDB at all. I also tried it on another PC that's completely different hardware, motherboard, DVD drive, pretty much everything is different running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit Anniversary. I did read some others having a similar issue but didn't find the resolution. Any suggestions? I don't know if it helps but the CD's ISBN is 1-55723-597-X and the bar code is 05008-60858-73. This is the only CD out of 504 rips that it has happened on so far and it seems to follow the CD.
Re: EAC crashes at end of rip before generating log file Reply #1 – 2017-04-10 18:07:54 Gregory is looking into this. No solution so far that I'm aware of.I did find the rips from both PCs in the CTDB. Today using drive SN-208FB and yesterday using drive iHAS124.
Re: EAC crashes at end of rip before generating log file Reply #2 – 2017-04-10 18:49:39 Thanks Korth, is there a chance it's actually the pressing since some are ripping properly? Looking at it closer it does have a few very light surface scratches that usually aren't an issue. If they do cause any issue I take it to a local 2nd hand shop that will run it through their "resurfacing" machine for $2 which has worked a few times for problem CD's. This doesn't seem produce an error though unless it's the last track as it crashes immediately after finishing. My desktop drive is a iHAS124-14 (Newegg Part: 27-106-393) and the other is an HP CDDVDW SN-208FB. I do have two laptops I could run it through also if there's a chance it might work. For testing could I just rip the last track or does it need to rip the whole CD to do a lookup?
Re: EAC crashes at end of rip before generating log file Reply #3 – 2017-04-10 19:24:11 I've sent Gregory the info. Please give him a chance to take a look.QuoteFor testing could I just rip the last track or does it need to rip the whole CD to do a lookup? The CTDB EAC plugin only works on a full CD rip.Edit: For anyone finding this hard to follow, the infrequent crash of EAC described above is believed to occur when the CTDB EAC plugin attempts to communicate with the CUETools DataBase (CTDB). You should be able to rip the [problem] CD by temporarily disabling the CTDB EAC plugin. F9 > Audio Plugins > uncheck the CUETools DB Plugin to disable, check to enable. Re: EAC crashes at end of rip before generating log file Reply #4 – 2017-04-10 23:33:41 Thanks Korth, will do and set it aside for now. If you need me to test anything just let me know it's been 100% consistent and reproduce-able.
Re: EAC crashes at end of rip before generating log file Reply #5 – 2017-05-30 04:57:56 Thanks, I was able to reproduce it... Took me awhile to get a CD-R. I swear, i found an 8-track before i found a CD-R The plugin finishes its job correctly and returns the verification log to EAC, which promptly crashes. The verification log for this is CD has a very long line ("or (4/493) differs in 4226 samples @01:18:42-01:18:43,01:19:01..."). This line is almost 8000 characters long. The whole log is around 16k i think. EAC doesn't crash if i return the log with each line truncated to 1k. I'll modify the plugin to produce shorter lines, and I'll also pass this along to Andre to fix a buffer overflow in EAC.

Re: EAC crashes at end of rip before generating log file Reply #8 – 2017-07-14 02:32:33 No reply from Andre. Ultimately this should be fixed in EAC.Updated plugin with a workaround here: http://s3.cuetools.net/CUETools.CTDB.EACPlugin.2.1.6.zipThanks for your patience.

Re: EAC crashes at end of rip before generating log file Reply #11 – 2017-07-17 15:00:16 Do you mean the "or (xx/xxxx) differs in..." bit does not refer to my rip? I always asumed whenever there were any of those it always refered to the rip that produced that log.

Re: EAC crashes at end of rip before generating log file Reply #14 – 2017-07-17 20:33:00 Good. But in nearly every situation, the 21 would also be enough to grant a good rip as well. Had you gotten one of those 21, then a likely explanation could have been that you got one of a small batch that were pressed with the same error. (The "rip" would be as good as it could given the CD.) Unless you had a CD-R which you had tried in twenty different computers. (Why CD-R? Because then a wrong original rip could be burnt to the CD-R, and you would get the same result over and over again. That is hard to achieve when you re-rip a scratched disc multiple times.)

Re: EAC crashes at end of rip before generating log file Reply #16 – 2017-07-18 20:45:06 The AccurateRip score is internally capped at 200, which is the reason why you do not see anything higher until the CUETools DB part. But rest assured the CD was still fine after 25 years.
Re: EAC crashes at end of rip before generating log file Reply #17 – 2017-07-19 09:52:49 That is very good news.I wasn't that careful when handling CDs at the time so it has many scratches though thankfuly it seems they are only superficial.Thank you.
