Unrecoverable playback error: Unsupported audio stream format

After a Windows 11 update today (20 Jan 2023) , none of my music tracks will play. The message displayed is "Unrecoverable playback error: Unsupported audio stream format"
I updated foobar2000 from v1.6.14 to v1.6.16 (the latest available on 20 January 2023)
Before the Windows 11 update, all tracks played, as they have done for the last n years.
The issue has to be something to do with the Windows 11 update.

Check that Windows didn't switch your default audio device, right-click the speaker in the tray and choose "Open volume mixer" or "Sound settings" (Output Device).
In Foobar Preferences > Output, select the actual sound device you use.
