Folders starting with '.' are not listed on Android due to OS limitation?

I copied a folder from Windows over to my android mobile which began with "..." and this did not show up in foobar2000. It also didn't show up in any other file browser apps. I think this is because the OS treats files/directories beginning with '.' as hidden? I just want to confirm if this is an Android limitation rather than a foobar2000 limitation.

Yes, in Unix land a file or directory starting with . is considered to be hidden.
