i'm interested in making my own buttons
is there some kind of standards to follow?
like do i have to follow a certain size standard? and how do i make parts transparent?

Standard size of one button is 23*23 px. You may use my buttons as template for your own work.

I don't know about transparency support in columns_ui, try to use .png format with  transparency...
