General Audio / Re: Can lossy high resolution outperform lossless at standard resolution?
Last post by .halverhahn -
If I summarize:
At the moment, the possible formats of choice are:
  • FLAC: resampled to 48000 and 20 bit = 1000 kbps. Not bad. A few improvements over Red Book (+4000 Hz, +4bit) and decent bitrate. No fear of artifact or noise
  • FLAC: resampled to 54000 and 19 bit = 1000 kbps. Not bad either (+10.000Hz and +3bit over RedBook).
  • FLAC: resampled to 54000 and 18 bit = 900 kbps. (+10.000Hz and +2bit over RedBook).
Slight misscalculation in your table: 54kHz Samplingrate = 27kHz bandwidth = +5000 Hz over RedBook

I woulnd't use odd non standard samplingrates. There is a quite big chance that your sound-hardware isn't supporting it.
To test it for support, set foobar output to exclusive mode.
To playback odd rates additional resampling is required by the player or OS.

I tried then 60000 Hz, 58000 Hz, 56000 Hz, 52000 Hz => output file is always 192.000 Khz. Is it a bug or a feature? Probably a bug.
By default Foobar is set to Windows "Primary Sound Driver", the "Primary Sound Driver" is resampling it to the standard samplingrate you're set up in your Windows sound settings.

  • Keeping 192.000 Hz is a total waste of space: no information but noise on all recordings I tried (and most of them are modern and state-of-the-art recordings from the last three years
  • 96.000 Hz is from an perceptual point of view the same waste, but from a technical point of view the upper frequencies contains real information (but of course not audible)
As you paid a Premium for your 24/192 Files, I would go to 24/96 or 20/96 to save space and to be still in the area of peace of mind.  ;)

Sorry, I should have tested with a new portable install. In my main foobar2000 install I have configured Ctrl+Z as a keyboard shortcut for the main Undo function so I get foobar's undo no matter what dialog I have open. Default behavior seems to be that hitting Ctrl+Z in the Library Search input field brings back previous query.

Enter wiping the previously active playlist with Library Viewer Selection enabled is definitely a bug.

I mention this just in case that it matters, I just noticed, it seems the smart playlist had the same name that another playlist present in the query....2 playlists of different types with the same name. So the playlist in the query wasn't referencing itself, I think , no? Pics with the properties panel:

Opus / Re: Opus decoding complexity
Last post by Klymins -
@Heliologue Complexity is primarily speed and secondarily required RAM amount for me, and these results are already gave me an idea: Opus is not a hero. By the way, which foobar2000 component gives these results? Thank you.

Error with SQLite again. I assume you still have foobar2000 stored on the N: drive that is a NAS device of some sort. SQLite's documentation mentions multiple possible problems with having the database on a network drive, reliability can't be guaranteed.
Older foobar2000 versions prior to 2.0 did not use SQLite databases and they only wrote configuration to the disk once at the end. Since 2.0 configuration, media library and related metadata are all SQLite backed and the files are always kept up-to-date.
Move your foobar2000 away from the network drive and try again.

Hi @Case would you mind checking out these dumps please? this is after disabling Bitdefender, still got the crash. i have narrowed it down slighlty, it appears to crash after file operations like moving songs from downloads to my all music folder within Foobar. i am a bit lost on what is happening.
