foobar 0.9.2!?!?!?

Well it doesn't work with 0.9.

Where's the update notifier plug-in?  Or is it a setting in the Prefs somewheres?

I've had to go back to using, yuck, Winamp to slow down and speed up - it's interesting what you can do with video, too...if a movie's paced too slow you can make it seem like the Three Stooges!

all of my plugins need the VC8 Runtimes libraries, and probably the .NET framework too (I'm not sure though, as it is installed with VS2005).

Ah, that might be it. Windows was giving me one hell of a time so I uninstalled visual studio and .net. I'll try again later.

OK, what in God's name are VC8 Runtimes libraries, and how in God's name do I install them?  I Googled it like a good user and the results indicate something way beyond me.
VS2005 I see has the .NET framework at Here (http://msdn.microsoft.com/developercenters).  This stuff free?  I've an old version of XP, nothing much updated.

I don't have .NET framework installed, and it's working great here. Using XP and 0.9.2.

Maybe I have those "VC8 Runtimes libraries", I don't know.

.NET Framework 2.0 include the msvc8 (2005) runtime so if you need .NET 2.0 (e.g. foo_prettypop or other apps) then install .NET Framework 2.0 otherwise install the msvc8 runtime is enough.

Is there a way to make the Soundtouch settings more easily accessible? That is, can I add them to the toolbar or to the right click menu or something, so I don't have to go through "File | Preferences | DSP manager | SoundTouch | Configure Selected" every time I want to adjust the speed and/or pitch?

Thanks!

probably yes. but I have to check the sdk to see.
if it is possible, I will write a new component to let user right click and have the popup menu added all the in use dsp, and to configure them. It is indeed useful.

.THNX.

changing the pitch is changing the key of the music
changing the tempo is changing the speed of the music
changing the rate is quite hard to explain, it is basically changing the sample rate.
I don't know how to explain the anti-alias filter....

This would be absolutely fantastic ... I rely on Soundtouch for listening to lectures and having an easy to reach popup window would be great.

You can try foo_menu_addons here (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=47332&st=0) that enable access to DSP settings in playback menu then you can make a hotkey for your fav. DSP.

EDIT: sorry reduntdant haven't read the whole post above just read lac29's answer.

Hi!

It's really good to see that soundtouch is available for 0.9x! I use it almost always when I use foobar.
Just a small feature request: Could you add an "Apply" button to the settings page, like it was with the version for 0.8x? I know that the 0.8x version of the plugin wasn't compiled by you, but it was really good not having to hear how the music skips when I'm setting the rate...

Thanks for your work!
Title: foo_dsp_soundtouch
Post by: Acropolis on 2007-02-08 16:52:15
I think being able to change the setting in real time is more preferable than clicking the apply button.

Well, I think it is a matter of taste  If you have the time and motivation (the latter decides, I know  ) to make it an option, I'd be grateful!

Thanks,
boardlord

Quite good plugin. But I think accuracy of hundredth of percent or hundredth of semitone is unnecessary. For example it's almost impossible to set pitch exact -2.00 semitones. I think it might be better to have two slides instead of one, one for the semitones (-12...+12) and one for the cents (-50...+50).

Hi, i love soundtouch & without it being ported to v0.9× no way i'd have changed from 0.83, many thanks Acropolis!
Besides my 'it works like a charm' impression i found an issue with the anti-alias filter, namely it changes to 128 each time i open the configuration panel of soundtouch (why i think it changes to the max at that instant, is the glitch in the music made then).
Well, i'm glad if everyone else misses that symptom, tho it would be nice to know what causes it for me.

One more thing: i just couldn't figure out hot to get proper results with burnt CDs. the tracks' original lengths are being maintained, which causes huge silent endings (i simply always listen to everything with some additional rate), which is really nothing you'd like in a continuous mix for instance. I also couldn't manage to trim them off with the gapless crossfader, the skip silence, nor by using the continuator :/

Anybody on the rescue?

Thanks in advance, bye!

nono, now you need the vc8 sp1 runtime, the old vc8 runtime will not work.

I'm not sure what I did to piss you off, but I'm sorry.
I read everything, and downloaded the files that you suggested, but it still didn't work.
No matter, the updated sp1 files that you just posted fixed the problem.
Even though you weren't the most helpful, I still want to thank you for making this plugin - I've been needing something like this for a while.

It would be so cool if soundtouch was able to read configuration values from tags, ie. so you can correct a track pitch without transcoding it.

Hello Hydrogen Audio Forums!

This is my first post here. I have been trying to get soundtouch to work using foobar 0.9.4.5 for over an hour.
The blog in question in post #1 was down and I was excited to get to some guitar studies. I was finally successful and wanted to share my trouble shooting.

Using WinXPPro-SP2 all critical updates:

I installed:
[blockquote].NET frameworks 1, 2 and 3 with all available updates. <-- (probably unnecessary and redundant to VC libraries)
vcredist_x86.exe  a.k.a. Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package version 8.0.50727.762
[/blockquote]

Unzip and copy:
[blockquote]libmmd.dll  a.k.a. Math Library for Intel® Compilers (thread-safe) version 9.1.9.2  into your system32 folder
foo_dsp_soundtouch.dll into your foobar 'components' folder.
[/blockquote]
After figuring that libmmd.dll goes in the system folder all was well in the world.

bugreport:

this DSP - when in the DSP-chain - will cause constant subtle playback glitches (sounds like CD reading errors, but more subtle)..... even if one tells it to do nothing (all options disabled). The mere existance in the DSP-chain already causes those constant subtle glitches. To notice them, play a track which has extremely low detail (drones and stuff).... then pay special attention to loud sections of the track.

System: Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM (with over 1GB free), win2k3
- latest fb2k 0.9.5 beta
- standard directsound output
- no high cpu-utilization

This component seems nice for audiobooks, but is there any way to calculate how to adjust pitch to attenuate pitch change when changing tempo? Soprano/bass isn't the voice I'd rather hear. Of course I can do it manually, but just an idea of how to tread would be nice.

?
the point of the time stretch is that it adjusts that for you.
no chipmunks

my only gripe is that it maxes out at 2x speed.  i'd like to tweak it further...sometiems material is ok at 2.5x for me, and that requires feeding it through a second go.

gomplayer is a software player that does time stretching on the fly.  can adjust in 10% increments, so its a good way to suss out what speed a content type is comfortable for you.  depending on accent/speaking style different stuff can be understood at different speed.  i find many british podcasts speak faster...so i can't ramp them quite as high

1) Probably not.
2) The closest you'll get to real-time depends on your output buffer size.

I see. Or at least somehow change the settings from the playback interface (even if it won't change in realtime). It's a pain to go through the settings all the time.

Reason: This component is not compatible with this version of Windows and needs to be recompiled with a newer version of the foobar2000 SDK; please contact the author of this component to obtain an updated version of this component.

I was able to get around it temporarily by running Foobar2k in Windows XP SP3 mode, but that causes other problems (like you can't drag and drop files into foobar).

Try to run foobar in compatibility mode (right click on foobar's desktop shortcut, properties, compatibility)

That should do it.

Yes, as I mentioned it does allow the plugin to work, but that causes Foobar to act a little funny.  For example, you can't drop files into Foobar when it's running in compatibility mode.

I think i ran it in Vista mode if i remember correctly, without any problems..
Maybe some other plugins are causing the problem.

I doubt it because that's the only one I have installed.  It's a brand new system, so I installed Foobar2k v0.9.6.9 and only the soundtouch plugin.

It turns out there is a recompiled version on Acropolis's site.  It works great under Win 7 x64.  Unfortunately, for whatever reason I can't link to the site, so if you google for foobar2000 components acropolis blog you should be able to locate it.
