Is there a free DAW that supports creating custom (non-standard) notes?

I'm looking for a free DAW that supports creating music with custom (for my purposes, just intonation will be fine) notes.  I know that Audacity supports creating sine tones with arbitrary frequencies, but it's tedious to compose music with, and the notes don't even sound right.  Is there a free, easy-to-use DAW that allows the creation of proper sounding custom notes—preferably with instruments?

It's relatively easy to use, but I don't think it can add custom notes.  Any other suggestions, anyone?

Are you targeting microtonal notes?

EP-MK1 (free VST plugin) could be interesting, because you could use a custom base frequency and define a number of divisions per octave

It surely is doable in Renoise in a couple of ways, for example you can generate waveforms of desired frequencies and assign them to keyzones. It's not typical DAW though - it derives from "trackers" which may be hard to pick if you're not used to them.
