3rd Party Plugins - (fb2k) / Re: Wine/Spider Monkey Panel/Script bugs on Linux
Last post by paregistrase -
Very cool @marc2k3

According with my test:

In wine 5 (default in ubuntu)

In order to use the "fancy html settings"  8) of biography you need to make 32 wine prefix and install ie8 and msxml3 verbs with winetricks. Doing that makes the panel to fail when try to download data with error: 12157. So this profile only can be use to make the initial configuration.

To operates normally makes a new 32 prefix, install wsh57,mdac28 and gdiplus. Download fron internet Segoeui fonts (symbols too) and put then in /home/user./local/share/fonts or /home/user/.fonts

With the modifications of included samples there's no more dpi error and rigth click works. The thumbs sample doesn't download image in automatic but if you makes download now it works.

Biography panel download artist images in auto. The rev_img are never downloaded and the cover file in album folder sometimes is writed sometimes not. Maybe this could be a misconfiguration in my panel.

The right click in bio crash but this is normal because the new modification are not in bio yet. Can be avoid comenting out the funtcion of copy-paste (parentWindow.clipboardData.getData) for know

In wine 6.22, last devel and stagging, the same as wine 5 with the exception that you doesn't need gdiplus verb to show segoeui.

To be perfect the only thing left is using the configuration ui without making a prefix with ie8 but anyway this is not a thing you do everyday. Ah and the copy-paste.

Very thanks people.

General Music Discussion / Re: What is for you the best 2021 album?
Last post by Wombat -
Again not much in 2021 for me but 2 albums i really feel are
Converge & Chelsea Wolfe - Bloodmoon I:  The first 4 tracks alone hit many triggers often whole albums can't.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - G_d's Pee AT STATES END!: Tracks 5 and 6 are the climax here.
Funny is that even in the hefty play on both albums i hear some notes that a Mike Oldfiled may have played.

And now to something completely different:
Portico Quartet - Terrain
This is so relaxing, especially track 1 kind of hypnotizes me. I love the Hang it seems.

AAC - General / Re: Which codec Spotify started using on their latest mobile app?
Last post by Makaki -
You don't really have to use the same codec and settings that Spotify uses. It's always going to be better to find something that feeds your needs, and your device.

You may be storage limited, or you may have storage to spare. And that can cause you to go with more compression, or on the other extreme, lossless.

Device support is also a thing, but current devices have less of an issue with this.

General Audio / Re: Lossless audio - we have space on todays portables. Comparisons

Before, people were OK with carrying around a subset of their collection when going portable. Even mix CDs (or Tapes) were a thing. Now people want everything they own at their fingertips.

I speak for myself, but I vary my favorite genres with time, sometimes I don't want to listen to a specific album in a long time, and after some rest, I might go back to it.

For me the only reason I would want the audio files on my mobile device to be lossless is to have 'just' another backup around.

back in ye ol' days, one reason to use flac vs mp3 on a sansa was battery life with rockbox. I remember that one update where flac decoder was updated to be very low on cpu, and you could stretch the sansa to 25 hours of battery, vs mp3 15-17 hours

General Audio / Re: wanted: damaged sample files (lossless, lossy)

For FLAC I created a testbench which only contains valid files, but that is already enough to break quite a few decoders, see here: https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php?topic=121478.0 and here https://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=FLAC_decoder_testbench

I had the idea to also create a testbench with broken files as you suggest, but one of the problems that I already have with the testbench of valid files, is that might prove a tool for black-hat hackers. This is even more so  for invalid files.

That's why I think you'll have a hard time finding such a thing: it the wrong hands it can be quite dangerous.

This is all well and good, but I think that most people's collection also grew between 2006 and 2021.

If I remember correctly, in 2006 my collection in 112kbps Vorbis fitted nicely on a 2GB SD card, which was the maximum size my device accepted (no SDHC yet). Today, my FLAC collection takes up 131GB, just a tad too much for a 128GB card. So, while moving to FLAC only increased the size by a factor of 7, my collection grew in total size by a factor of 56.

For me the only reason I would want the audio files on my mobile device to be lossless is to have 'just' another backup around.
