foo_highlightplaying

This is version 0.1.0 (initial release) of foo_highlightplaying

ChangeLog

0.1.0
The component highlights actual now playing item even when the playlist has been broken (because of foo_browser for instance)

Notice : you should replace in columns UI prefs the View/Activate now playing action which is associated with "double click on status bar" by foo_highlightplaying (it has the same basic behaviour + the case of broken playlist).

I had been waiting for this. Wonderful. Thanks.

Sorry, but I didn't understand what it is that you have to do to make this work. Can you explain again?

Edit:

It doesn't seem to work when you change from one artist to another in Browser, for instance. (You have to go back to the artist from the song that is being played, otherwise nothing will be highlighted). Would be nice to improve this behavior.

The plugin adds a command to focus the current track to the "Playback" menu.

I don't see the point with this plugin.

As long as you make sure browser puts items in it's own dedicated playlist (call it *Browser) and make sure the Album List panel also uses it's own dedicated playlist (call it *Album list*) you will never screw up either Default playlist or any other playlist.

And In case of any flaws with Columns UI or any other component you should fix those instead of making another component just to fix a problem in a component.

Thank you for this plugin. This corrects something that has been bugging me for awhile.

I found your installation instructions rather vague and it took me a minute to figure it out.

1) Copy foo_highlightplaying.dll into your components directory
2) Restart foobar
3) File> Preferences> Display> ColumnsUI
4) Under the "Status bar/Systray" tab, under the "Status bar" section, change the setting for "Action to perform when doubleclicking on status bar:" to "Playback/Highlight playing"
5) Click [Save All] then [Close]

Now if I change my playlist with a browser panel (I tested artist as well as a few others), then change it back .. I can double click the statusbar and foobar highlights the currently playing song.  Prior to this plugin, changing the playlist with a browser panel would break this behavior.

EDIT: I also changed my context menu links and attached a button, this component works well.

Sorry if this is a silly question but what ist the difference between "highlight playing" and "View/Cloumns playlist/Activate now playing"? Seems to do the same thing here

I find it useful too because I needed a hotkey to jump to the currently playing playlist and song, and this component does just that.  I don't use ColumnsUI, so the columns methods listed above wouldn't work for me.

Much appreciated,
M

Hello Mathieu

thanks for your plugin and the time spent on it.

I was thinking:
great, with this album, i would be able to:
create an Album list from some items (from All Music Playlist or Browser Playlist...etc...)
play a song from the new playlist created
and then...
if I delete this new playlist, and double click and the status bar (with your action selected in preferences), it will highlight the song playing, in the database playlist (All Music?).
But, too bad for me and my thought...    instead, it makes all blank, selecting an inexistant playlist.

Would it be difficult to implement an option, somewhere, that
"if(playlist exist, highlight in playlist) else (highlight in "all music", or any autoplaylist configured with 1 in query)"

Sorry if my language is a bit ununderstanding, english is not my first language.

with Cordiality

But this is imo a bug in columns ui, I'm not sure but I think it worked last version. Same with the playback treatment; afteryou changed back columns ui does not display the currently playing track like a playing track...

It would be better if columns ui worked fine.

The problem is that it doesn't actually activate the song such that it will continue to play within the new list, which I believe the "View/Columns Playlist/Activate Now Playing" function is/was supposed to do.  Highlighting the song is one thing, but I think it would be better if it actually recognized it as being played in the list, such that it continues playing within the current list from that point.

Is there a way to do this automatically when opening a new playlist? For example, a command to both send the new playlist and activate the current song upon clicking something in a browser panel?

I'm not sure if this completely fixes the issue, as Kockroach was saying, if you browse to another album or artist or whatever, then browse back to the currently playing album, and select 'highlight playing', when it reaches the end of the track it plays the highlighted track again, instead of the one after it as you would expect. Is there any way round this?

Bump...

Any way to use this with 0.9.5 beta 1?  This is exactly what I'm looking for but dont see how to integrate the auto highlight without having to use a hotkey...

Erm... You aren't trying to accomplish what the "Cursor Follows Playback" option under the "Playback" main menu does, are you?
Full-quoting makes you scroll past the same junk over and over.

Yep, I absolutely am.  Had no idea that was there, thanks!

Just want to say, new version of foobar (0.9.5.1 beta) is stellar, much more friendly and all that.

i hope this component will be ported for version 0.9.6
it would be really useful with big playlists.
i prefer it's behaviour rather than the "cursor follow playback", cause if you're working on some items of a large playlist the focus won't move to the now playing track until you say so.

you don't need that component for this, just doubleclick on the statusbar... >_>
(It would just be useful if the playlist of that track is gone, i guess)

Is there an alternative to this for >1.0 ? Sorry for bumping

yes, use Preferences -> Display-> Columns UI -> Status Bar -> Action to perform on double click -> select "View/Columns playlist/Activate now playing"

or just go or bind hotkey on command in mainmenu View/Columns playlist/Activate now playing
