Title: Convert audio format wav and other to dts
Post by: evigilatio on 2013-04-27 09:49:22
Good afternoon, foobar2000 specialists!

Could you suggest me where or how I can convert other audio formats with 6 channels to .dts? Maybe, dts encoder exists or I should convert in other audio format.
I don't want to do it in wav, becase it's huge files or I do something wrong.

Thank you for your help and attention.

With best regards!

You could encode to AAC (MP4), which has reasonable hardware support, or to a free format like Ogg Vorbis.

Hi,
You can use foobar to obtain a big 6 ch. wav,use Tranzgui to split to 6 mono ch.then use Minnetonka's encoder to obtain you dts files. To ease you work You could use Audiomuxer[Surroundbyus] along with Minnetonka's or/and Arcsoft"s encoder.

Have a greay day,
M

Since you hotlinked to the files, I will repeat the warning found on the main page:
Quote
The DTS technology is heavily patented. Please do not download and do not use this software if you live in a country such as USA where software patents are legal and you don't have a patent license from DTS, Inc. (http://www.dts.com/professionals/licensing.aspx)

I think I’ll err on the side of caution here and remove the links. Presumably the authorities can’t do much to stop interested users from using Google and accepting the risks upon themselves rather than this site.

Thank you for good advise. I will try.
Before I didn't know that dts format is forbidden audio format, but maybe together we will find the best way how to avoid this difficulties.

Wish you good day!

P.S.:The question remains actual. I will wait with pleasure any other ideas.

You can also make a 6-ch FLAC, as well as 6ch .mp4 or .ogg. Why DTS? Why not AC-3 ? Why not just FLAC to preserve quality?

Thank you for your advise. Flac is good alternative, but the maximum bitrate of this audio format is 9156, in the same time wav, dts or mlp codec gives more 13824.
Although wav audio format occupies in twice time bigger than flac. It could be option, but not perfect:-)

Let's try to continue discussing this topic and find best solution.

Wish nice day!

Maximum bitrate for FLAC format is 9156?! That is just wrong. FLAC is lossless format not tied to bitrate. It can certanly go higher

Simple DTS with higher bitrate than 1,5 MBit? never heard about it. Maybe DTS-HD. MLP - ok, just buy DVD-Audio authoring software and try burn your own DVD-Audio. Same goes to DTS-HD. And about FLAC "maximum bitrate" - where did you get that info?

Sorry, I said it from my small experience. When I tried to convert DTS-HD, MLP to flac I got less bitrate then I would do the same to wav.

@evilgilatio - that only means that your files required only 9156 kbps. And this is the perfect option as quality is absolutely uncompromised.

Thank you very much for your patience, and that you have clarified it.
