CUETools / Re: How would you interpret my accurate rip results?
Last post by anteater545 -
Track 6 matches 0 out of 161 rips (differs by 31 samples for 139 out of 161 rips).

This could be a pressing not yet in the CUETools Database (CTDB). If so you could give it some time and try verifying again.

You said the Test and Copy CRC's don't match for Track 6. Another option is to attempt a repair with CUETools.

https://www.discogs.com/release/31910872-Lady-Gaga-Harlequin

It was released in 2024, and purchased 2 months ago direct from the Artist, as I'm sure many people have.

Also, would CueTools "Fix" my track #13 even though it matched some people's? Or how would that work?
Track 13's length is 3:04:38 and the 2 different samples are at 3:03:44 so it isn't just an offset kind of problem I assume. I just want to rule out any problem with my hardware or setup. It kind of raises eyebrows that it's the very last second of the whole CD, but weird that other people had this result.

Track | CTDB Status
  1   | (150/161) Accurately ripped
  2   | (160/161) Accurately ripped
  3   | (160/161) Accurately ripped
  4   | (160/161) Accurately ripped
  5   | (159/161) Accurately ripped
  6   | (139/161) Differs in 31 samples @04:08:58-04:08:60
  7   | (160/161) Accurately ripped
  8   | (160/161) Accurately ripped
  9   | (157/161) Accurately ripped
 10   | (144/161) Accurately ripped
 11   | (160/161) Accurately ripped
 12   | (158/161) Accurately ripped
 13   | (  7/161) Accurately ripped, or (139/161) differs in 2 samples @03:03:44

It says I match 7 other people's rip, but the MAJORITY do not match?

I've ripped about 30 CD's before this, and have never had an error, so this is bugging me that track 6 is having an issue, but the last track matches other people's. I did Test and Copy after detecting gaps (non-compliant) and use the automatically detected offset correction of +6 which matches the database for if I wanted to manually enter it..

Question 1 ) Do I have a different variant of the pressing if track 13 matches 7 other rips? The Read and Test CRC's match for this track (but not #6)

Question 2) Any suggestions for track 6? This was an unopened CD, just opened it. First time I've had an error.

3rd Party Plugins - (fb2k) / Re: foo_vis_vumeter

I didn't see front_center in the left_channels and right_channels, that is why I asked.
Now that you've clarified, it is my misunderstanding. My apologies.

VU_L = left_channels + center_channels
VU_R = right_channels + center_channels
You got it exactly right. No need to apologize! It's not easy to achieve technical clarity in the forums--we all have different backgrounds, expertise, native languages...

Released another update (0.10.10), just changing the way the DirectX toolkit is built. The toolkit release from a couple of days ago removed the ARM64 native build from the desktop NuGet package. No other feature differences.

New release: 0.0.2

goom looks perfect on square size.

while resizing out of the square size, goom looks weird...
Try the new version.

This is exciting! Great to have more visualization options on foobar. Unfortunately I couldn't get it to run. foobar consistently crashed when trying to add it as a UI element (whether on my layout or on a scratchbox) or accessing it through the View menu.
At the very least it should not crash. Windows 10 should work. Check that your video drivers are up-to-date. The new version will try to launch OpenGL from version 4.6 down to version 3.3.

CD Hardware/Software / Re: A newbie needs clarifications about TOC reports
Last post by Lazlo Nibble -
Without pulling out a microscope (or a Domesday duplicator) and examining the raw EFM on a CD, there's no way to determine the exact "zero delay" offset, so someone had to guess, and that guess happened to be 30 samples away from the correct answer (as far as I know - has it ever been independently verified?).
IpseDixit's methodology that resulted in the 30-sample "correction" certainly makes sense. But as you point out, since the Red Book standard doesn't define things down to that level (because why would it, given the application?) even if you did have Domesday-grade visibility into what's encoded on the disc, there's still a judgement call to be made about how to interpret what you see. It becomes a purely academic exercise pretty quickly.

AAC - Tech / Re: Highest Possible AAC Quality
Last post by Rick Roberts -
Some pretty lively discussion going on here!  I don’t take any offense.  I won’t comment on most of it, other than to say it’s a 2008 Toyota with 130K miles… so who knows.

The main sense I get out of these discussions is a very grounded and practical view of these codecs, which makes sense.  But going back to my first post… when not limited to storage space and with the low cost of large USB drives today in 2025, it can also be asked, why not go with max AAC settings (or better yet, flac when it supports it and file formats like exFAT or NTFS)?  The only downside is the number of songs you can fit, which even for my fat32 USB, still got me a happy ~3,000 songs that are as close as lossless as possible and give me the admittedly dumb, but satisfying feeling, I’m feeding it the very best input I can.  Conversely, the CD-R disc example is where the storage space is much more limiting, and I fully appreciate the advice of using Lame mp3 VBR at much more moderate bitrates (if the vehicle lasts much longer  :) ).

General Audio / Re: Do you know how this effect is made?
Last post by itisljar -
Oh, to answer myself, and for anyone curious, I've managed to recreate the effect - it's phasing.
I've rotated phase of left channel by -90 dB, and it placed bass drum and bassline effect of original version that I have at almost the same place in panorama. I did it with iZotope Editor. Audacity doesn't have that kind of plugin.
