Changelog
Finally here is the new version 1.0 beta 1 which has some mighty new features. I took some time (mainly the complete change to unicode character set), but alls well that ends well…
Here comes a list of the new features:
+ Unicode support for all fields (but not CD-Text)
+ New database engine for storing CD information (old databases can be imported)
+ Metadata plugin support, for now there is a freedb plugin included. This will be released as open source freeware soon.
+ Cover support, can be drag’n'dropped from a file, a web page oder can be retrieved via a metadata plugin (support included in the freedb plugin). Cover can be written into tags or in the extraction directory
+ AccurateRip v2 support
+ Better Windows 7 support (like progress display in taskbar icon, storage of user data in the correct folders, etc.)
+ Free selection of first track track number (including option to continue numbering from the last inserted CD)
+ Option to always write the log file in english language
+ Option for writing a checksum over the extraction log data to the log file
+ Average extraction speed is listed in the log file
+ Possibility to write only V2 tags (and no V1 tags)
+ Free choice of replacement characters for filenames
+ Range copy selects now the first selected consecutive range of tracks as default
+ New folder browser dialog (system dialog for folders)
+ Added two placeholders for filename creation for track length (min and sec)
+ Test for (command line) compression options (and display of a sample command line)
+ Menu for removing unwanted/doubled spaces from “cd title”, “artist” & “track titles”
And some features are now removed:
- Removed Windows 2000 support (and any older OSs)
- Removed ID3V1 tag editor
- Removed compression offset
Hope you like it!
The next version is also planned, it will mainly contain an additional demo for a commercial metadata provider (if anybody would like to have access)

Checked briefly and it looks same to me (of course changelog), only don't know why it ask .NET 2.0 support
I'm used to 0.95pb3 afterall and don't need to reconfigure from ground for something I don't really feel missing

> AccurateRip v2 support

I believe this is support of the new CRC, rather than CRC and cross-pressing checking.

everything i hoped for so long is not implemented.

- embedding log files to image encodings (wavpack, flac) is still not possible, because encoding process starts before the file is written and therefore cannot be found by the encoder
- custom filenames when ripping images is still not available

anyway nice to see that the development is not dead.

don't know why it ask .NET 2.0 support

AFAIK .NET is only needed for the "Metadata plugin", which you can unselect during install.
And indeed it is very frustrating that none of the previous settings can be "migrated" to this version.

I find it at least "adventurous" to link to the Slimdevices forum for "more info"

I already asked there. During ripping a cd and encoding with flacuda as external encooder i get 2 beeps after every song. I find this a bit annoying. Does this indicate an error? All seems to work fine to me.

whats flacuda?  eac seems to come with stock flac 1.2.1

is flacuda some kind of nvidia gpu thing?

in EAC options on the general tab there is a checkbox for "beep when finished extracting" which i have unchecked, but that sounds different than your issue.

Happens with standard flac also. It encodes, closes the window and gives 2 beeps while going on ripping the next song. Test encoder gives no error back. So it must be a new "feature"
Disabling "beep when finishing..." disables all beeps.

Having some kind of signal at the end of a complete rip makes sense but after every song?

I found why. My fault, sorry.
If i choose "On extraction start external compessors queued in the background" it indicates the end of the encoding i suppose. No way to disable the beeps then.

could you not go in to the device manager, change the view to show hidden devices and expand non-plug and play drivers. double click beep, click the driver tab and click stop on the current status and change startup to disabled.

I get much lower AR confidence with the new version: 6, with older EAC it was 200. ("Kind of Blue", 1997 remaster)

Why is this so? Does it only count AR 2 rips?

I did a fresh install and the wizard didn't ask me to insert a CD to test for offset, like it did with the older version.

Disabling "beep after extraction finished" in EAC General settings disables all beeps, like mentioned above. It also disables the beep when finished.

I haven't tried it yet, but most likely its only reporting AR2 results. Post your log, that may help to answer your question.

If AR2 is present in the database, new EAC will report that; if not, it will report AR1 values.

Unless there is some other bug, it appears as if the new log is only reporting the confidences of the AR2 hashes and not the AR2 hashes themselves, since the hashes being shown are obviously AR1.

On Windows 7 (64-bit) opening a file dialog inside the software invariably crashes the software thus making it impossible to use other external encoders than the preselected flac.

This is still better than the last 0.99 beta that hanged during the Feature Detection of my blueray-player (HT-DT-STBD-RE GGW-H20L).

On the bright side, "Browse for Folder" dialog doesn't crash

Cannot replicate this issue on Windows 7 x64... file dialogs in the external decoders window work as expected.

That said, unfortunately this release appears to remove the option to store a local (flat file) freeDB database, which is not something I can easily give up after having it available for so long.

I have .99 installed in a stand alone folder so the new install won't trash it.

You can safely have both 1.0 and a previous version installed at the same time so long as you have them in separate directories.  The settings for 1.0 are kept in a separate space in the registry.

Hopefully because when I was using the last two .9x versions, they both wrote to the same registry space.

If you haven't, you should try the official forum (http://www.digital-inn.de/forum14/) since I don't think Andre reads this one.

What drive letter do you have associated with the drive you're trying to use to rip?

I fresh installed v1.0 and set it up from scratch. Worked great and I loved the album art search and copy to the music folder feature.

No issues yet as I've only ripped a few CDs to WavPack and V1 LAME VBR. I also like the feature of advancing the track numbers on the subsequent discs so it can all be put into one play folder. I had to edit the playlist by combining the separate disc tracks in one file.

Can anyone hazard a guess as to why, even though I have "Delete WAV after compression" checked, EAC does not delete the WAVs, and furthermore, just to rub it in, gives all my flac files random 9-character filenames starting with #tmp?  (FWIW the WAVs are named perfectly)

One thing that will cause this is extra characters (like a space) entered at

Compression Options --- External Compression tab --- Use file extension: ________

Make sure the text box has nothing but ".flac"
