fb2k needs larger buff, but larger buff unsupported?

Since yesterday, besides random crashes a few time / day, the crash rate has gone up,
(it was playing several hours/crash, now I'm luck if I get an hour -- no changes in FA, but who knows what windows might have changed...

AFAIK, I've just been cleaning up duplicate fonts (in the win dir, ) and and doing some event-log maintenance --
none of which would have directly affected FA, as far (or as little) as I know.

I've no idea what module triggers the crash -- all debug information has been zeroed out by FA -- including the report in the app-crash log sent to MS.  It might be interesting if they get enough of those crashes from 'unknown' @ 0 from FA, they might just decide to flag it as 'incompat' w/Windows 7 and beyond...as the only info available is that FA is crashing and it's never in any 'submodule', so must be the main program that is broken....?  Dunno.

But the main reason I'm writing (though figuring out the crashes would be useful as FA2k is considerably less reliable and more buggy than any other music player at this point, though Songbird got less reliable when I had over 100 extensions, at least there, one could determine what extension was causing problems and even trace though the source code -- something that isn't possible with FA2k) ... er...again,

The raisonné d'etat main reason is FB seems to be looping periodically during song play, giving the appearance of being starved for data.  I count about 2-4 repeats until it continues, and my current output buffer is set to 2000ms, so I thought I'd try 7500ms, and see if that ironed it out. 

Songbird, when network was fully healthy would work with as little as 250-300ms, but occasionally explorer would go processing a folder for thumbs which could take 2-3 minutes (tiff bug in windows Microsoft Hotfix 2619291(now 20-30 seconds) and found that I needed a 3000ms buffer to be safe).  Think I found 2000 worked most of the time which is what I set FB to initially (and to think Irix machines from early 1990's could use a 100ms audio buffer ... my how things progress; XP could likely have been <1000, but Win7 added alot of junk -- including, I suspect, random delays to thwart timing based attacks, but that's only speculation based on 2.5 years of using it).   

Anyway, when I try to play, I get unsupported buffer length in the console?  Why would FB care what the
output buffer is? 

I don't see an option like in the 'Flash player' (or similar) to start immediate playback, but start buffering the entire song into a memory buffer...  How do I enable that -- Note, these are *files* -- on a network store (max linear read 119MB/s; random are lower than that, though even MS-backup's 'Restore' image gets ~70-80MB/s read with no
only image-restore-running from the install-CD.

Any ideas?
