[IDIOCY] From: Why are our ears so foolish?

Comparing human senses to digital bandwidth is just a little crazy.  Senses have nothing to do with reality, reality is all in your brain.  Take some LSD, mushrooms, or mescaline.  They don't change or put anything into your actual senses, they just distort how your brain views them.  Our senses are insanely accurate, it's just the fact that we don't rely on needing to use them anymore in this world.  Everything is noisy, everything is bright and well-lit, and everything is clean and soft.  We can't even see the band our galaxy makes at night anymore without going hundreds of miles away from civilization, and even then I'd assume it's still less spectacular than times before electricity.  Our brains ignore so much because of having to deal with so much noise and other useless data.  Spend some time in the wild away from technology and your senses will redevelop into what they were meant to be.  I don't need math or science to have this opinion, it's just logic.

What are your standards of accuracy for making this claim? In terms of audio, just exactly how "insanely accurate" are our ears in terms of distortion, frequency response, dynamic range, etc.?

I would say "not very", though audiophiles often believe our ears are so accurate that they can hear all kinds of things that "can't be measured".

Music over a medium with speakers or headphones is far from real-world listening.  Live in the wild for a while without technology and then listen to some music after a year and tell me if it sounds the same.  Birds living around cities tend to chirp and sing at higher frequencies than birds living far away from civilization such as in the amazon.

So you evade his questions with more BS?

In case you haven't figured it out by now, it is rare that you will get away with unsubstantiated claims on this forum.

Ignoring that this doesn't even remotely substantiate anything you've said, maybe it's because birds in the Amazon are bigger, I dunno (and I doubt you do either, assuming this is actually true).  Just don't tell this to the ravens living in my backyard.

They aren't claims, it's common sense.  Go outside without sunglasses and come inside and everything will seem really dark for a few minutes.  What, the ears won't act the same way?  Everyone is constantly bombarded by machinery some way or another our brain is ignoring so much information, and so much noise and crap that our hearing is being damaged not from age but from technological life.  As I said before ban me if you don't want to hear my "BS."  Until science and math can PROVE exactly how and why the universe formed, and what happened with every single particle since the beginning of time, it's ALL just as useful as my "BS."

<noting proof is still not forthcoming>

We ban people for continual violation of our Terms of Service, not for simply committing logical fallacies.  I may decide to bin your posts if I think they disrupt the flow of useful dialog, however

Just don't expect to be taken seriously.

Our senses are insanely accurate,

Given that they are trivially shown to be nothing of the sort, would you mind explaining this counterfactual statement?

Yeah, go to a club or concert and afterwards tell me if your hearing is 100% back to normal within 50 to 200 milliseconds.  People need to get real and quit relying on mathematics and science to try to explain reality.

Instant ban please.

I’m more interested in which alternative framework he proposes to explain reality with!

Surely this counts as trolling around here.

Damnit, a perfectly good thread on perceptual fidelity distrupted by a mere troll.

I guess I better hurry and submit my "invisible unicorn whispering sounds directly into my brain" theory as well, seeing as those smart ass scientists still haven't figured out "how the universe formed and what happened with every single particle since the beginning of time". After all, until THEN, my theory is on equal footing as "ALL".
