Playback controls locked

Hello, I am using Foobar2000 1.6.6 on my Android phone, but sometimes when trying to control playback using my headphones I get these messages that I have added as attachments.

The problem is, I am using TWS earbuds and play/pause is a double tap, with different tap counts having different functions. So getting 10 taps in a row in a short time to be recognized as 5x play/pause is very difficult.
What controls this behavior and is there a way to change it?
 I know for sure this does not happen every time, as sometimes I take my connect my earbuds and use them to start and control playback with no issue.
