Title: 5.1 DTS to Vorbis - which bitrate for transparency?
Post by: aufkrawall on 2011-11-18 18:10:15
Hello,
what do you think are the necessary bitrates for Vorbis if the sources are DTS 5.1 768kbit/1.5mbit to preserve transparency?
Has aoTuVb channel coupling for other channels than front left and right and a special LFE channel for bass?
Thanks.

Anyone?
The latest threads about converting DVD/BD audio to 5.1 Vorbis are pretty old and since then the codec seems to have received lots of improvements, especially regarding channel coupling.

Compareable to AAC with the latest aoTuV build?

Btw: Handbrake nightlies now include the latest aoTuv build, very comfortable now to convert movies with best Vorbis quality.
Unfortunately the WinGUI doesn't offer -q options yet.

Personally I use -q 4 and consider it being transparent for MY ears. Why not test yourself?

If you haven't done it already, check out Monty's Demo Pages. Lot's of information over there.

Sorry for my late answer.

I think I'll stick around ~400kbit since the source is already lossy and to be a little bit more on the safe side.
