"Static" in QT 4.2-encoded music?

I was listening to a song on my shiny new mini. But something was not right: there was some kind of "static" (like listening at badly tuned radio) on the drum beats. The funny thing is, I never noticed it before.

The file has always been the same. I simply transferred it from my library to the iPod and found this issue.

The song info is:

With Him (4:44)
Babyface
Face 2 Face

Kind: AAC audio file
Size: 4.4 MB
Bit Rate: 128 kbps
Sample Rate: 44.100 kHz
Volume: -3.7 dB
Profile: Low Complexity
Channels: Stereo
Encoded with: iTunes v4.0, QuickTime 6.2

Any idea what could have happened?

Can you reproduce the problem if you encode from CD again?

That's some pretty horribly distortion, especially in the left channel.
