has anybody got some performance numbers for this? i'm interested in how it's affects battery life on a sansa clip+ compared to other codecs. i suppose i could do my own battery benchmark but i'm lazy.

My Fuze+ can't play Opus files properly. I get cut-outs every 2 seconds, and the interface becomes unresponsive. Another Fuze+ user confirmed that.
My Clip+ seems to do fine.

It's still not efficient enough for a Sansa e200v1 to play music well, 64 kb sounds ok, but controls can hang up.  12 kb/s books are fine.

Give the rb folks some time, they always get these things locked down.....and the codec is still being developed, in the meantime, sticking with vorbis q2, fully transparent on my gear and is the only codec so far that gives that magic 10% file size with no audible degradation.

There are two other encoders those are at least as good as Vorbis at  that bitrate. Apple AAC and Opus 1.1a.

Oh hey I wasnt cheerleading, just saying until opus support is more widespread/finalized im sticking with vorbis because its built right into android, which is pretty much all I use. Apple AAC? iTunes? Good god no thanks.  Once opus is matured and google bakes it in Ill be on the bandwagon myself!

Amen, Mach-X speaks the truth! It will be interesting to see if VP9 is any good, then we may have a completely open source alternative to the typical x264 + aac combo.

Update on the stuttering while playing Opus files on the Rockboxed Fuze+: strangely enough, I can't reproduce it. I'm playing an Opus file right now, and playback is fine. We'll try to investigate in #rockbox.
