What does it mean then? Obviously not the inclusion of Menno's in_faad.dll and/or in_mp4.dll in the download package?

I think it means that WinAmp can decode aac-audio from Nullsoft's nsv-stream (nsvdec_aac.dll).

And what does this mean?    Some Shoutcast preparations for AAC+ or what? Or only the ability of Winamp to buffer HTTP downloads of normal AAC files now (which I would appreciate very much, of course...)?

NSV is Nullsoft's video format (see: http://www.nullsoft.com/nsv/). The AAC decoder is for decoding NSV videos with AAC soundtracks.

It would be nice if Nullsoft add Vorbis and Theora to there format (it's not a big deal cuz Theora ~ Vp3
still LAME 3.96.1 --preset extreme -q 0 -V 0 -m s at least until 2005.

Right, but keep in mind that Theora, is far from being ready (AFAIK). Nullsoft needs a solution now.

BTW: Nullsoft knows what's good.

The library would be sooo much better if it were configurable.  I have all my mp3s in directories by artist and it assumes that the directory names are albums.

ehh? sacrat?

winamp <2.9 skins are still compatible (though avs isn't skinned anymore). why should their extended skinning support spoil something?? it's great (though means rewriting your tutorial).

if you are really a skinner, foobar doesn't seem to be a good choice then.

@stripe: the library will read id tags. it has to GUESS the info if the tag is missing. tag your music. I have my music sorted on the harddisk by album.

Does the Lite & Standard versions have any "No Ad" versions like the Full version has?

Yay winamp 2.91 will be out today or tomorrow.
Next week francis and I will be integrating winamp3 skin support via
a general purpose plug-in. Francis already has it limping, but we'll
get it solid and give people who want it alphas to play with. Leet.

Wohoo . MMD3+WA2 = dig WA3
still LAME 3.96.1 --preset extreme -q 0 -V 0 -m s at least until 2005.

I was really beginning to like it over Fb2k until I saw there were no CUE sheet plugins that could play CUE sheets then went back to foobar. Add it winamp!

woohoo! video playback now works 90% of the time (opposed to 2.90), even SVCD, thanks to DShow filters, i guess (i have an 80gig alone for SVCD music vids.. and then some). it's also a bit more friendly playlist-wise than Media Player Classic.

i think i'm almost hooked on WA 2.91 for all my media playback...  combined with the 5point1 output plug, i'm very happy (altho i have to set buffering to 100-200ms to keep frames from being dropped for some strange reason).

Well, amano, Winamp 2.X skin format is far from being perfect: there are some bugs and misses, which are nevertheless used by skinners to improve their works (if you read my tutorial, you know it).
AVS skinning was (even before) done by thinking with something which is definitely not head (more likely someone's arse). Skins for new components are not better. Maybe, even worse (from my position).
There are some other things, which made me turn to FB2K. Library is terrible: stupid, bloated component, Video player is not better...
I really disliked a stupid idea of combining WA2 and WA3. The idea is stupid!!!
I love Winamp, but for the last time I'm getting disappointed by how Nullsoft deals with it (and users).

I see no useful features in new Winamp
btw, All the time I remember myself Winamp had troubles with playing MIDIs an trackers. This is still true

P.S. [offtopic on] I've released the last version of my tutorial some time ago. See no use in continuing the work. I doubt there'll be something competing in the nearest future anyway.
Foobar is not skinnable, you're right  But it's quite easy to use and allows high customisation.

According to Vorbis.com, Winamp 2 & 3 both play Vorbis files, but I just installed Winamp Lite 2.91 & it does not recognize *.ogg files & doesn't play them. The Lite version is only supposed to not have the Visualization Studio & Windows Media Audio Support, that the Standard & Full versions have. I searched thru every WA2 plug-ins at Winamp.com & there's none for Ogg Vorbis files. The 'Preferences > Plug-ins > Input' in WA2.91 shows:

Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder 2.91 [in_mp3.dll]
Nullsoft CD/LinIn plug-in (CDDB2) v2.90a [in_cdda.dll]
Nullsoft Waveform Decoder v2.06 [in_wave.dll]

So, how do you guys play Vorbis files with Winamp?

Thanks for helping this complete newbie.

Oh, & the Vorbis files were downloaded from Vorbis.com.

@s1n9: The Lite version does not include the Vorbis plugin, only Standard and Full. BTW, I advise you not to use the tagger of the Vorbis plugin, because after that, Winamp will no longer seek correctly in your files. Apparently, there is something wrong with the tagger

Thanks, Wizard. I'll download & install the other ones.
I'll probably try out FB2K as well.

I have no problem with editing vorbis tags in winamp.
