Aside from using cdparanoia, there's the possibility to use EAC together with Wine. Works good for me. But cdparanoia is really a good ripper too, which does it's job very well (at least with unscratched media).

If you'd like to use EAC with Wine, then do a search here in the 'CD Hardware/Software' forum. There's at least one thread where you can find informations on how to set up EAC/Wine. + You can use windows binarys of your favorite encoders, in case you don't find one for linux...
