Whats the best way to upmix stereo to 5.1 with foobar2000 v.1.0

First a few things: I would like to see some thread ect that addresses the "how-to" of upmixing for headphones from stereo to 5.1 for foobar2000 v.1.0

I have seen and used two so far:

1)

DTS Decoder
Channel Mixer
Dolby Headphones

and

2)

DTS Decoder
Free Surround
Dolby Headphones

currently I am working on http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/lofive...php/t77902.html

with the following setup - however, there is no specifics on what to change the components to in the thread - help here would be great.

3)

Gapless Crossfader
Bauser stereophonic-to-binaural DSP
Crossfeed
Convolver
VLevel
Dolby Headphone

HOWEVER, I can't seem to find an updated version of VLevel.

Any better setups/comments would be appreciated.

Thanks.

To me, it seems silly to up-convert to surround sound only to downmix back to stereo for headphones.  Dolby headphone does work with stereo sources... Dolby says:

Delivers superb surround sound from stereo music and movies

However, you may prefer the sound you get from the up-mixing.  In that case, you should decide for yourself which surround processor you prefer.  (I've only use Pro logic II for synthesized surround, and only with actual surround speakers... I've never tried it with headphones.)

Right, Doug that is a completely valid point-of-view. I was rather skeptical at first until I found "The Headphone Experience" see: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f46/5-1-head...c-files-447089/

Notice at the bottom of the post there is the switch to free surround which doesn't simply echo the front left and right speakers. Although, I am not too sure how it DOES work - it seems to be fairly nice.

Actually, 5.1 here would be a misnomer as it really should be 5 channel because usually the LFE is taken out for headphones.

Sorry about the title.
