Winamp not reading cover art from mp3tag

Hi,
I have tagged cover art to albums using mp3tag. when importing to the winamp media library no cover art is displayed. Not even when selecting refresh art, or refresh metadata.
I use the latest version of both software.
can anyone help me out and tell me what is going on here?
from what I have thought Winamp should certainly read embedded cover art as well as folder.jpg.  Also, I have verified that the artwork is actually tagged so I don't suspect there was an error on the part of mp3tag.
thanks

can you provide a small sample file tagged in mp3tag that doesn't display in Winamp?

Are you sure that you saved the files after adding the cover?  After doing "add cover" and selecting the image, did you save the files?  (You would have seen a message about writing the tags.)

I just wanted to be sure you didn't overlook it.

thanks for the quick replys
Benski, I would be happy to attach a file later, once I get home to the computer it is on. thanks. Also, at the risk of sounding stupid, I am looking at this reply box and I don't see any way to attach a file. how is that done?

Drexl, thanks. What I did was add the album in mp3tag, then highlight all the tracks. dragged an image file from amazon 500x500 to the cover art box and hit the save button, which looked like it attached the changes to each track.
When I right click on the files and look under the dbpoweramp id3 tag info, it does indeed show that an image is associated with the file, next to where it says cover art.
Perhaps Winamp doesnt recognize a file embeded as big as .bnp 500x 500?
From my understanding of Winamp it handles cover art in  a specific order first looking for an embedded art, then to folder.jpg, album.jpg and so forth.
I usually use the folder.jpg way of doing cover art which has worked great for me with winamp, but have recently been trying to embed the album art lately.
Hope that info helps.
thanks again!

the order you do things matters.

load the files in mp3tag.
select all files.
drop image in window.
save files.

see if that works.

thanks for your reply. yes, that is how I did it. I hit the save icon in the left corner upon finishing dragging the art to the window.

just to check, when you pull the files (to which you already added art using mp3tag) back into mp3tag after restarting the program, does it still show that they have cover art? (I assume you've got this covered since you said you verified that the cover artwork was actually tagged, but want to check since people are asking if you saved the cover artwork correctly, and they shouldn't need to ask that if you'd already verified that the cover art was indeed saved to the file, and is shown as such by programs other than Winamp)

yeah, Tim. thats right. but I did forget to mention that specifically, that when re-loaded back in mp3tag each track/file did show the art in the tag info pane on the left side.
The whole thing is really strange to me to be honest. I recall it working before with winamp, but like I said I have for some time previous to this been using the folder.jpg system.
1. How do I upload a small file here so someone else can take a look?
2. Maybe I should re-download and install Winamp again? maybe there is a corrupted plug-in or something? However the few other files I have with embedded cover art seem to show up.

Are you using a different mp3 decoder in winamp, other than the nullsoft one?

no not that I am aware off.  the only plug in I have added is the ml_ipod plug in. I used EAC with LAME to encode the mp3's for which are in question with a 4kb buffer.
I cant remember the how many kb the .bnp file was? Could it have been too big for the space left for metadata? Although then it wouldn't show up I guess as having the cover art tagged when loaded back into mp3tag...

If you load the file(s) in Foobar2000, do you see the cover art?

I dont use foobar but it might not be a bad idea to download that or media monkey to see if it shows up.
What about audioshell? that should be able to tell me that the embedded art is present, right?
also, I have an old version of itunes on my desktop which has not been used in years. maybe I should blow the dust off that and load the album into itunes. it should be able to detect embedded cover art. (maybe I am giving it too much credit!)

Foobar2000 would be my recommendation.  If the art doesn't show up there, then something is definitely wrong with the files, and not with Winamp.  Either way, you will know where to focus your attention.

my guess is that if the attached .jpg shows up in mp3tag, it'll show up in foobar2000.

You would think so, but I don't assume anything...

So, I put the files into itunes library, which I have not used in some time but for testing purposes it was able to show the album art I added on mp3tag, so I guess if itunes can recognize it then the problem must be with winamp?

I'm using Winamp 5.571, and it shows the art that I've added with MP3Tag.  Make sure Winamp is using the Nulsoft MP3 decoder, with v1 & v2 tags enabled.

thank you indybrett.  I did check that out. I am using nullsoft MPEG decoder 4.8 and v1 and 2 boxes are all checked. any other thoughts?

You could try naming the artwork "folder.jpg" before adding it to MP3Tag for writing.  Unless it is already.

If I understand right you embed a .bmp (not .bnp) cover art. Maybe this is the foult in winamp? If it is so, try with a .jpg cover.

Ok. So it seems everything is fixed and working right now.  I re-installed mp3tag, the same version I had before. and now it works fine. I guess something weird, or corrupted with the previous one. Still not sure why it was showing the tracks had art embedded, but who cares now. It now works with Winamp. Errrr! All that and all I needed to do was re-install.
Thanks everyone for your help, and sticking with me!
cheers!
