Medieval CUE Splitter - Add gaps and Invert gaps

I have a bunch of FLAC albums with CUE sheets and I'm in the process of splitting them up.

I noticed that if I do not select those two options (Add gaps and Invert gaps) the songs split end up shorter than the original tracks (silence missing at the end of each track) on the CD. Why is that?

I assumed default settings in Medieval would suffice (with Add gaps and Invert gaps UNCHECKED). Is this the case with other CUE splitters? I'm also open to other CUE splitting options.

I don't know this software firsthand, but I would hope it's gap settings pertain to "INDEX 00" gap markers in the cue sheet. "Add gaps" and "Invert gaps" is confusing terminology. If it actually handles the original CD layout as defined in the cue sheet correctly, "add gaps" should mean "keep gaps" (assuming this is why some tracks end up shorter with this option unchecked). "Invert gaps" may likely have to do with whether the gaps are appended to the previous or following tracks (previous would be the EAC default, and typical of ripping software which ignores gaps).

I can tell you with certainty that CUETools does a correct and precise job. It's original and current authors are Hydrogenaudio members. It has seen extensive testing and much popularity here.

I would also recommend CUETools. I use to use  Medieval CUE Splitter and experienced many problems. CUETools works great and does more.

Tried CUETools and it seems the program is too complicated for me to use since I can't find a guide on how to use the program.

I converted some of my personal albums in the past to a single FLAC with CUE sheet, I can't figure out how to use CUETools to split the album back into individual tracks. Medieval CUE Splitter is simple and easy to understand. Members here are always recommending CUETools so I thought I give it a try. Is there a guide on how to use CUETools?
