Foobar and XP remote desktop

My desktop computer (i386, XPpro) runs Foobar and my music.  The audio output from a Creative Live 24bit external audio card connects to my Hi-Fi.  It works well.
But when I remotely control Foobar from my netbook (Samsung NC10, XP home) using XP remote desktop I get intermittent audio mutes.  Foobar just stops playing for up to 30 seconds and then continues. For the duration of the mute the computer appears to have no data coming in.  Occasionally the pause is longer and the message "Remote Desktop is reconnecting" appears before the music continues.  The mutes can occur every 10-20 minutes or I can go for a whole hour or two without any.  I first suspected remote desktop but, here is the interesting bit - I have tried two other audio players, MusikCube and Songbird, without the problem occuring.  Has anyone experienced this before?
