EAC startup in Windows 7 64bit

I installed EAC 0.99pb5 on my new Windows 7 64bit system. Copied all my EAC settings/profiles over from my Vista machine and all seems to be working fine even AccurateRip

However there is an annoying thing now happening on startup. Two DOS windows flash up in quick successions and disappear virtually immediately - too quick to read if anything is on them, before the main window EAC window appears. This did not happen in Vista. Has anyone else noticed this and know what is causing it? I have installed EAC again and same problem occurs

TIA

I've noticed this problem yesterday when I used EAC for the first time under Windows 7 (64bit). It never happens with me on XP and Vista though, it seems to be a bit strange.

I see this too, but since EAC still seems to do what I want it to I've never let it bother me - it doesn't seem important enough to call it a 'problem'.  I imagine in due course there'll be a 64bit native release of EAC and this will go away.

If it really bothers you you could open a console window navigate to the EAC install folder (which is in Program Files (x86)) and run it from the command line.  Maybe whatever is showing in those flashed up DOS windows will show up in the console?  At least then you'd know what it is (if this works).

UPDATE: this doesn't work!  Seems like you'd need some kind of screen grabber thing to capture what's in those elusive DOS windows.

If you don't need CDRDAO burning you can remove that directory from EAC and it won't splash the command window anymore. It seems to scan burning devices on start and for some reason doesn't manage to hide the process on 7 like it did on older OSes.

Well. there are also some other strange bugs, for example:

the generated CUESHEET files won't work correctly anymore. In Win7 EAC writes a second index in the last CD track. Then no player can play the Cuesheet.

this problem doesn't exist when you update from win xp or win vista to win7. It does only exist when you have a completely new isntallation of win7.

I suspect that the DOS windows may be related to 32 bit emulation. Under some conditions, these may be startup files like those ancient artifacts CONFIG.SYS and/or AUOTEXEC.BAT.  There may be ways to customize an individualized start-up environment for EAC that at least looks a little cleaner.

This appears to be the correct solution to the problem. I just renamed the CDRDAO folder and the two DOS windows no longer appear. Many thanks

excellent. i have never noticed any DOS windows coming up on mine, but coincidentally, i didn't install the CDRDAO portion during install either...  so i suppose your problem is solved.

just for reference, i have ripped over 150 CD's in Win7 x64 using the internal CD routines, without any problems whatsoever.... everything matches up in AR as it should, etc... so as far as I can say, EAC prebeta5 + Win7 x64 play nicely together.

i have not had this problem at all... could it be a specific option or something you are using? which method are you ripping in? (multi-track, single wav, etc)?  [just to note, for comparison -- i rip secure mode, test&copy, single wav+cue]
