Playing hidden track "track 0" on CDs

I've got several CDs with a hidden track prior to track 1 (track 0 I guess it's called). On a normal CD player, if I want to play it I have to rewind and it works.

But on the computer, foobar doesn't even show that such a track exists (ie if track 0 and track 1 are both 1 minute long, foobar only shows track 1 and it's 1 minute long, not 2 minutes). I've tried seeking back but it doesn't work. I know my CD drives can see it because VUPlayer sees the hidden track by showing that track 1 is 2 minutes long (using the above example), but VUPlayer can't play it.

Can foobar identify this track? Can foobar play it? Can foobar even rip it?

Appreciate any help. I'm not too familiar with foobar's functionality.

Hi iron clad lou.

Are you talking about pre-gap data (Index 00) or perhaps you're talking about non-audio data like some redbook audio CDs that contain the data track (sometimes track 00) seperate from the audio.

I think I'm talking about pre-gap data because these bonus tracks are actual audio data; it plays on my non-computer CD boombox. Also on the boombox, when you rewind to play it, it has a negative number on the counter and it counts down to 00:00. I assume that's pre-gap data.

Looks like I answered my question about ripping it by searching the forum, that most people use EAC. But still, can foobar play it straight from the CD? Or do you have to extract it and play it as a file?

I don't know of any software player that will play them, although I haven't used many players .

As you say, you really need to rip it and play the ripped file.

Oh, and you are talking about pre-gap data, these are an INDEX 00 entry for TRACK 01.  foobar (and other players) play INDEX 01, CD players display the time between INDEX 00 and INDEX 01 as a count up from a negative number.
