Need inexpensive docking station for mp3 player for work

My husband is an 2nd grade teacher and he would like to be able to play his Sansa Fuze at school. He can’t do it on his computer because it is a thin client and they have no extra ports nor does the server support sound.  Sad but true. We can’t afford to spend a lot nor do we want something too valuable left at work. It would be nice if it did have enough volume that he could turn it up so the kids could hear music at the back of the class. Does someone make a really good sounding docking station that is inexpensive? I have been looking around online but would be interested in any suggestions folk might have here. I have found this place to be a good resource.

These docking systems are normally rather expensive and produce ho-hum results.  I had to spend $300 on an iPod docking system that could produce results allowing me to hear audio from 20 ft away.

I think you would be better off purchasing some inexpensive computer speakers.  Amazon.com sells many 2.1 speaker systems for less than $50.  A 2.1 speaker system means that it has two speakers and a subwoofer, you can get 2.0 speaker systems (just two speakers, no subwoofer) for less than $30.  I think a 2.1 system would be worth purchasing as the speakers are a bit more powerful and can carry across a room better.

I think that Logitech or Altec Lansing will be two brands that can provide you with adequate results while being inexpensive.  Here are some speaker systems that I would recommend:
Logotech LS21 - $29.99 sold by Amazon.com, $19.99 from the Amazon.com marketplace (can be used or new, look at the product details
Altec Lansing VS2421 - $33.15 from Amazon.com, $30.42 from their marketplace

You can even cruise down to your local Best Buy or Circuit City and look more at Amazon.com.  I provided those two links so you could see what I am talking about.  I saw a larger Logitech set at Circuit City for $45.  It had five speakers and one subwoofer.  I have that system and know that it can produce results that are audible from across the room.  Either way I think that you would be better off purchasing inexpensive computer speakers instead of $70+ docking systems when the computer speakers are definitely going to produce better results (especially the ones with subwoofers).  Here is a Sansa docking system so you can see what I mean.  Not only is it more expensive but I know that an inexpensive computer speaker system will be better.

The computer speakers will plug directly into your husband's Sansa headphone port.  The only benefit that the Sansa docks offer is that they can charge your husband's player.  I don't know if there are any docks out there right now that can charge a Sansa Fuze.  It seems like it takes these accessory manufacturing companies a long time to come out with products for players other than iPods.

Thanks for your response. Well that really does seem to be the way to go instead of the docking station. I did some quick checking and came up with another set that got great reviews the Logitech x-230 but they stopped making and selling them. This concept will work out really nice I think. Thanks for the recommendation!

I have just received a 33% warning for this posting saying I mentioned hardward???How can you not talk about hardware when trying to resolve issues? I have tried to find a place where I can email the admin but have yet to find a link to admin to discuss this. I think this is childish and unfair and what I did find is if I post about this at all I am in trouble too.! The founder is from Portland and I am just across the river in Clark County and it does't surprise me in the least. It refers to TOS #6 but I read TOS #6 and it doesn't say a thing about not mentioning hardware???  This seems very odd way to do business. Warning folks but no way to contact admin easily. I will find another forum to seek advice. Please close my account I tried to but there doesn't seem to be a way to. So that is why it shows a lot of folks on this forum but in fact many have left as I am.

I don't know what happened but I don't see any warning (unlike the warning that I received 4 years ago yet remains on my account after all these years at 0%).  Your account is still open and I already answered your question.  Feel free to come back, don't be turned away by this.  I can't see anything wrong with your account but then again, I am not an admin so I don't have a detailed view of your account.
