Anyone use Songbird or other program to sync ipod?

I have an ipod classic.

I'm sick of itunes. Too slow, and does not monitor folders so when I add new music I have to hunt it down. I don't buy anything from the store either.

I'm looking into alternative media players.

How good is songbird at downloading and keeping updated podcasts? How about audiobooks? Can it remember places in the song like itunes?

I myself have not had much luck with songbird. It is very Fat as far as using resources and such. I found it was using more of my computer than iTunes does, very slow. It looks good but, I don't think so. I use Foobar for all my ipod stuff and general media player (music anyways). Very slim depending on how much you add to it.

I like the new 1.0 RC's. They're pretty usable now. I still use Rhythmbox and gtkpod though, that just works (too).

Version .7 and .8pre were totally unuseable.. easily eating up more than 300mb of memory. searches would freeze with large libraries for 30+seconds... but those issues are all things of the past. The nightlies are even better than the RCs.

Im just waiting for the rubberducky feather to return.. I cant even find the source anymore.

Does Songbird make an iPod (5th gen and above) display album art? If it does, then I will seriously consider giving iTunes the boot,

I use songbird 1rc3 to manage my ipod 5th gen and it is the ONLY thing other than itunes that seems to know what sync actually means.

As far as I've found songbird doesn't put album art on ipods yet.

Thats great n all but does it really make a difference?

Whats annoying me with Songbird is that it re-writes the iTunes DB and rearranges my music as a result every time it mounts my iPod.
WHY?!

foo_dop sorts the database specifically to my needs, I don't want it ruined every time its detected by Songbird.

I use WinAmp myself. Supports the iPods out of the box and does a decent job of syncing.

One caveat of using Winamp with iPod - the last time I checked, Winamp couldn't make my iPod display album art even though they were embedded in the actual files themselves.

Try using the ml_iPod plugin instead of the native iPod plugin. Works great!
