On a quad core Intel and a quad core Phenom the 64-bit version is definitely faster. On one dual core AMD tested it was actually slower.
By the way, has SV8 beta stage been put for eternity?

Please bear in mind that this are not the final SV8 binaries, although major changes are not likely.So, if you want to stay on the safe side you should probably avoid re-encoding all of your SV7 collection yet.
