You don't need to apply offset to be able to verify your rip
And unfortunately you can't disable writing a .cue file, but it's also on my list mainly because it's useless when converting to lossy formats.
What's the model of your drive? What changed before it started to happen? New drive or new driver? Does it happen on every CD?
