FLAC to CDA converter/burner

I just finished ripping about 850 CDs to FLAC format on a 500GB network drive (NAS). I used the MFdigital "Baxter" hardware and it only took me about a week!

For playback I am using the analog outputs of the Slimdevices wireless "Squeezebox" into the AUX input of my audio system. So far everything is working great!

I would like to be able to easily re-create a std playable CD from a "FLAC'd" version. I'd rather not have to do a conversion using one piece of software and then burn to CD with another. Does anyone have a recommenation on a "one stop" software solution? ......  Jeez,  I sound lazy!

Thanks,
Ron

You might try Pokisofot's Easy CD-DAE software at:

http://www.poikosoft.com

It is the software I use, and is is commercial, but includes support for most major audio file formats, plus includes licensed MPEG 4 Audio (.m4a) and AACPlus (HE-AAC v2) encoders/decoders. It can rip CDs, burn CDs and convert files between the various audio formats (including FLAC). Hope this helps.

It will be able to rip more things accurately than Easy CD-DA Extractor with more trustworthy results and is less expensive.

With it's new installation wizard, EAC can easily be configured to rip to flac as well and costs no money at all.  It is also more trustworthy than Easy CD-DA Extractor.

CDex is another popular program which is completely free (costs no money and is open-source) and is extremely simple to use.

Besides the fact that it has no ability to guarantee an accurate rip, I personally would never support Poikosoft because of their shady marketing tactics.

Thanks for the feedback,

But.........Since I own Nero 6, I did a "Google" on "Nero 6 FLAC to CDA" and found another solution, a free FLAC to CDA plugin. I just tried it and it worked just as I wanted. Yippee!

Glad you found something that works for you.

After re-reading your post, I have to admit that only one of the solutions I've presented (EAC) is able to burn audio CDs and cannot do so directly from flac format.

I hope you don't mind a quick question.  Is secure ripping important to you?

Here is my un-informed answer....I'm not sure what secure ripping is.

Hi greynol,

OK, I found out what "secure ripping" is and yes it is important to me .... within reason.

I want a high level of sound quality with easy access to my music (of course sound quality is in the ear of the beholder). I really don't expect that the ripped CDs will sound quite as good as my CD player playing the unripped CD.

I 'm one of those wacky audiophiles so for serious listening I'll have to get up off of my butt and stick the actual CD in my CD player.

All the options presented (even Easy CD-DA Extractor ) are capable of secure ripping (at least to a certain degree) whereas Nero is not.

The real wacko  audiophiles will tell you that a CD-R actually sounds better than the original.  The fact of the matter is that so long as your player is able to read either the original or the copy without error there will be absolutely no difference in sound quality.  The downside of CD-R is that the medium will degrade more quickly than the original.

I am surprised that nobody remembered to mention burrrn.

I use it all the time, and I love it.

Also check out Roxio's Easy Media Creator (for PC) and Toast (for Mac). They both burn CDs from FLAC files.

I'm also using burrrn for burning my Audio-CDs. Its the best tool i found.
It reads many formats and .cue files. And its only "Launch burrrn -> Drag&Drop the album -> Burrrn"

Both the CD player and the soundcard have the same data to produce the sound from. Why would the CD player sound better?

Only because my CD player has a better DAC and analog section than the PC or Squeezebox.
