Typical questions of a new potential miniDV cam owner

Hi!
I'm planning to buy a miniDV camera at around 300$
I think it may be Sony DCR-HC23E

Basically, I'm looking for something which has less pixels and bigger matrix. What can it be?

And the second question is, where can I read what is the best way of downloading and converting the resulting data to some video format (processor consuming with the best compression)

Thanks a lot!

no idea, as for the 2nd part of the question:

the best way is to hook up the firewire cable and dump dv stream to disk, free utility is windv for example.
http://windv.mourek.cz/
After that (as a 2nd step) you can compress further.
PANIC: CPU 1: Cache Error (unrecoverable - dcache data) Eframe = 0x90000000208cf3b8
NOTICE - cpu 0 didn't dump TLB, may be hung
