errors decoding some mp3s using LAME

As the Subject and Description indicate, decoding some mp3 files using LAME
(3.97 and earlier versions) produces wav files whose sample rates are not
44,100 Hz, but rather 48,000 Hz (which resulted in “loss of streaming” errors
when trying to burn them to CD Audio).  Strangely, WinAmp (version 2.9)
decoded the same mp3 files to wav files with the proper sample rate: 44,100 Hz.

I would be happy to share these troublesome mp3 files with anyone who wishes
to experiment with them.  If this topic has been covered before, I apologize.

Edit:  my mistake, I meant “44,100 Hz”, not “48,100 Hz”; argh!  Is it possible to
correct the error in the Subject description?

Are you sure you didn't encode them at 48000 kHz to start with?

What kind of Lame front end was used to encode them?

I don't know, as I didn't encode them; I suppose I could let EncSpot take a guess.

Ah, I think I see what you mean:  Did they start life as 48KHz wav files?
Yes, that must be the answer.  Looking more closely now at the ID3 tags,
I see “48000Hz Stereo”.  Uh huh.  Okay...lesson learned:
Pay attention to the tags before decoding and attempting to burn.

Thanks, Light-Fire.
