MP3.-Encoder=Plugger...

Hi, i just downloaded a very rare album which is encoded with "Plugger" @128kbCBR & Joint Stereo. This tells me Encspot. What is Plugger, has Encspot right and how is its quality?

Plugger is a very old mp3 encoder. AFAIK it is based on the ISO code and sacrifices speed for quality. It suxx big time. Imho even Blade is better.

Quality is quite bad. You should be able to tell by listening. 

Here's a thread trying to find the worst possible MP3 quality (while still using up lots of bits) with the Lame encoder. Their benchmark for "poor quality" was Plugger. Just to put things in perspective. I had to download a copy for myself, just to hear... yup, it's bad. Real bad.

If I were you, I'd keep looking for another copy of your album...

Plugger is great.  The last changes:

"New:
the name is quite changed from plugger to plugger+ (copyrights problems).
a new algorithm different than ISO's (also removed CCITT de-emphasis & psycoacoustic model).
20-25% faster."

When I read the latest Plugger changelog and saw that line, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Good programming practice: if you don't know what part of a program does, throw it out! That's why Plugger's not just faster, it's more stable; that psychoachoustic model probably had bugs in it, anyway.
