Is there a WDM plugin for FB2K ?

Is there a plugin available for fb2k that can utilize the Kernel Streaming capabilities of WDM drivers for soundcards ?

That will allow users (like me) who don't have ASIO soundcard nor an operating system that natively supports kernel streaming, to tap into the potential for kernel streaming provided by WDM drivers.

I am running a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz soundcard running WDM drivers on WindowsME.

foobar2000 0.9 does not work on Windows ME, which is irrelevant anyway since both 0.9 and the deprecated 0.8.3 both have Kernal Screaming output components.

You would probably be better off using Windows 2000 or even XP on that machine. Or if you must use something in the 9x generation, 98 SE. I think even 98 SE has limited WDM driver support.

well I am using v0.8.3 and while it works just fine on ME, I don't see Kernel Streaming as an option in the 'output' list. But should I expect to see it though ? I believe, and correct me if I am wrong, that ME provides Kernel Streaming only by the way of WDM drivers.

I believe KS was only in the "special" version of 8.3.

Oh, wait. I don't think the KS output for 0.8.3 was ever designed to work on Windows 98SE or ME. It would appear to be a Unicode build, so even if those platforms do support Kernel Streaming API, it won't work there without either modification or a rebuild against Microsoft Layer for Unicode, and even that's not a guarantee.

ok that explains. And that's why I was asking if there was any "workaround" (plugin) available to use WDM and thereby its kernel streaming capabilities.

While I have your attention may I also ask if there is an ASIO plugin for v0.8.3 ? then maybe I could use it with ASIO4ALL, because ASIO4ALL works just fine with the current driver/soundcard.

Basically, I am trying to find out ways I could bypass the regular Directsound/Wave/MME path and use the "direct" path (KS or ASIO) instead, in my current setup i.e. WinME and v.0.8.3

Thanks!

Not to mention Kernel Streaming is basically pointless in 99% of cases.  I think I tried using kernel streaming on 98se once with no succes.  Why would you even need kernel streaming?  Getting rid of WinME would yield more results than kernel streaming.  But as was said, it probably won't work, didn't for me.

EDIT: And yes, there is a ASIO output pluging for v0.8.3.  I find it highly unlikely you'll actually hear a difference between it and standard directsound either.

This worked!
The ASIO dll (normal) loaded fine, ASIO was detected by fb2k (thanks for asio4all) so the ASIO option showed up in the 'output' list, and I played a few seconds of a track and it all worked just fine!
I haven't done any A/B listening or measurements yet but I am glad to have found a way around Kmixer!

That doesn't constitute an audible difference.  I never said there was no difference.  Just not one your likely to hear unless your kmixer is really mangling your audio, which, as I already said, won't happen 99% of the time.  There are still the 1 or slightly more percent who do have issues, which is why kernel streaming and ASIO output components were made. Now if you getting some obvious sound improvements, like no crackling if it was before then it's good ASIO worked.
