Sennheiser PX 100

I just got myself a pair of PX 100 headphones. I plugged them into my iPod in shuffle mode and wanted to share my first impressions:

+ Physically, they look decent with a really long cord which can be handy. I like the foldable design.
+ These headphones can produce some crazy bass. BTW the crazy bass note was in a Eels song, these guys are crazy.
+ Wonderful music encoded in crappy MP3, unfortunately sounds crappy when you listen closely. Time to reencode Caetano Veloso.
+ The iPod mini outputs enough bass, thank you. In fact I had to enable the Bass Reduction equalizer setting on a Björk song.
+ Disappointed in my Cranberries album. Hope it is just the encoding.
+ Renewed respect for TLC (FanMail), one of my favourites.

That's it for now!
Thank you for reading.

I like my PX100s as well.  Nice bass without sacrificing too much high end.  However, I found they let in too much environmental noise for bus/train listening.

Hi, all!

Some time ago I chose between PX100 and PX200, and finally I've bought PX200. IT'S THE BEST SOUND I'VE EVER HEARD FOR THIS TYPE OF PHONES AND PRICE! Also it's noise-reduction construction really reduce environmental noise! It looks like they perform almost true sound, so lovers of low-bitrate mp3s could be disappointed because it really heard all coding artefacts. And I think it applies almost to all Sennheiser's phones.

PX200 with noise cancelling? Aren't PX250 the only headphones in this class with noise cancelling?

Edit: Ah, you were referring to its closed construction. My bad.

I think he means the padding reduces outside noise.

EDIT: too slow!

I have the PX100 Yellow Pad Edition and all I can say is "wow". I can't believe these headphones cost under $50. Design is good! The case is good! The weight is good.................... everthing is good~~~~~~~~~~except bass ! Anyway, can't demand too much for the price! I love my px100.......

Haven a hard time to find a good replacement phone in the same price range! Any suggestion....

I'm very happy with my black PX 100s. I bought them to replace a pair of Sony MDR-EX51 (crappy cable got broken) and they make my Zen Micro sound excellent.

Maybe it's just me, but I think the white version is more bassy (at least that's what I percieved when I compared both mine and a friend's). No complaints, though.

I love my PX100 (yeah they sound GREAT) , but as one of the above posters said they let in too much environmental noise, I noticed that while riding the bus recently.... so keep that in mind when you make up your buying decision... they are great for chilling on the beach or in the hotel room ... but not great for crowded places / busses / subways

anyone had a chance to compare the px100 to the grado sr-60/80 ? I had narrowed it down to these two but couldn't listen/audition a px100 before buying. Finally got the sr-80. My first impression of the sr-80 was that they are too bright - too much sibilance and pronounced highs(atleast for my tastes) but I have grown to like them. Dont know if I just got used to them or the phones and the bowl pads just settled in after breaking in, but I think its the latter. I like my music just a tad bit bass heavy and there certainly was no lack of bass!:  But anyway back to the original question - anyone care to comment on how the px100 sound as compared to the sr-60/80 ?

I have the white model. I find it difficult to believe that they sound any different from the black model. If the black ones are really lighter on bass, I would want to exchange mine with them!

I believe the white and black version should basically sound the same. The only different is colour. Lately, I'm looking for a headphone/clip-on for running. I find the Philips SHS850 Neckband Headphone. Anyone have experience with this headphones? Looking like they can stay on my ear very well.

I've got 2 black senns px100 and they sound a lot different. One is much older than the other so i guess the sound changes after a period of time. The older one has less highs and more bass.

I've had a pair of PX100's for a while.  As I'm a biker, to and from work every day, I greatly appreciate that I can still hear the outside world with these on.  It's absolutely lifesaving to be able to tell when some fool on a cell phone is approaching out of sight.

That, and Queen's "Bicycle Race" sounds particularly good to me.

Edit: Judgement? I am a satisfied PX100 owner. I like this set much better than any of my other portables.

Also satisfied here. I have two pairs, actually. They sound great, altough they are definitely not for outside use. They let in two much outside noise.

At home, though, they are stellar.

I never thought I would get to the point where I would have different kinds of headphones for different uses. But that is the way it is.

I had long planned to buy some good headphones, and they'd been Sennheisers anyway because I buy most of my electronics stuff at Reichelt, and Sennheiser is their main brand for those.
Anyway, after reading all these positive posts I decided on the PX 100s (black), and they were delivered today. I know now that I made the right decision. They have a little too much bass in my opinion, but that can easily be corrected with an equaliser preset, and they sound just great to me otherwise. Thanks for helping with the decision. But I'll need a new mp3 player, because now I noticed how bad my old one really sounds.
