Apple Lossless support for Winamp

I've downloaded some files in .m4a format. According to some other forums and given their size, I assume they're encoded using Apple Lossless codec. I know that this codec spec is not publicly available so maybe I'm out of luck but, is there any plug-in for Winamp5 that makes it able to play these files?

It's been reverse engineered ages ago, there's a plugin for DBPowerAmp and http://craz.net/programs/itunes/alac.html C source for a decoder there. There's probably one for WinAMP but if you don't have any luck it's trivial to use QT or iTunes to convert them to something else (WAV or otherwise).

Sorry I can't guess how to use QT for that... Pointers welcome!

iTunes should be able to do the job.

m4a could also mean compressed mpeg4 audio (aka aac), in which case you should not transcode to another format.
